I wish I had some positive learnings to share from 2020 but frankly I’m still experiencing the trauma of lockdown ( Melbourne winter lockdown was horrible) and continued isolation. I mostly had to deal with teenage depression because remote school and isolation affected their mental health whilst I tried to keep myself together (not successfully). Perhaps once this is over I can find the light, but for now, it’s too raw.

The 2020 Victorian lockdowns taught us to be thankful for the things that we could do. For example we could go for walks to get take away coffee etc. To be thankful for the things we had. For example our good health, a roof over our heads, happy & healthy children. Being able to spend more time with them at home. Creating new recipes to cook at home and being thankful for what we have and concentrating on the positives and not allowing the negatives (of the lockdown) to poison our happiness.

Likewise Peachy, welcome back! Patience, taking things slowly and taking time with new connections. Not just here, but life in general! We’re all in too much of a rush!

I put some hard work in 2018/19 only to have all my efforts fail. I couldn’t help feel that failure even though the things most important to me were going strong. So along comes The virus and not only am I lucky I withdrew from a failing project before the virus hit but the mayhem of 2020 has meant i have been able to spend more time with what is most important to me, my family. We took the likely impending Armageddon to take some chances, we found a dream house and even though the banks are being more idiotic than usual we jumped. We now have what seems like will be our forever home, our life has simplified even further and we are focusing on becoming more self sufficient. Not all is peachy though as I have very grave fears about what the rulers of the world are up to which causes me so much stress mainly because I worry about what this world will be like for my kids. There is a chance that if we all open our eyes and ears and wake up to who is judging what is fake news or not then we actually have a chance to shake the system to the core and make real positive change but this won’t be easy. While I stress over these things I live for the moment with grass beneath my toes and enjoying the company of those that enjoy mine.

I learned to stand my ground a bit more at work, in society and in my private life. I’m ok, I’m fundamentally a good person with good morals and that’s worth protecting, so I’m learning to back myself a little more and work on what I want out of life instead of just accommodating for everybody else and allowing myself to be put last. 😊 It’s been a tough year, a lot of it was spent in a tail spin as I watched my worst fears unfolding before my very eyes so a good portion of the year was spent just learning how to cope in a world that saddens me to my very core. Welcome back Peachy 😉

What I've learnt in 2020 during the last year is, it's given me more reassurance not to touch those cheese/meat platter things, that are the new rage! Even tho it is drummed into our heads handwashing etc, I still wouldn't touch them. I'd rather starve! People aren't washing their hands cause I see so many wearing fithy hand marked masks out in public! 🤢🤮🤢🤮 Ms Foxy

I learnt that your health is the most important thing to value in your life. Some will say family is the most important thing, but I say that this has to come second. I always refer myself back to those great airline safety briefings where they tell you about what to do when the oxygen masks drop which is to put the mask on yourself before others and that’s because if the cabin depressurises and you don’t put your mask on yourself first you will pass out. So your no help to anybody then. Same thing applies to your health. If you want to be able to help others and you can’t because of your own bad health well you just can’t help those you want to help. If your fit and healthy you can help as many as you want to. So for me my own health and fitness has to be my number 1 priority in life so that I have the ability to help those that can’t. And it’s great when you get great compliments from the opposite sex that they like what they see too!

Thanks for the welcomes, very much appreciated. And thank you for the posts, I understand what we value is not necessarily a positive perspective, it is entirely individual. xox

Valuing independence and reassessing personal goals, after many years of putting others (children being the exception and coming first) above myself. Resetting personal and professional goals. I think COVID-19 was a make or break year for many. It set the benchmark in the sense of either going with the status quo or making significant changes.

Let’s be honest, the whole year was totally fucked! I’m one of the lucky ones in so far that my job is easily adaptable to working from home. I started the year at home with the attitude that I might as well eat and drink as much as I could because who cares right? Towards the middle of the year I realised that I care. I care about my body and my health, not for looks, but how I feel about myself. I found an amazing online program for health and fitness that works for me and at the age of 50 I can honestly say that this is the healthiest and fittest I have ever been. My 2 biggest take outs for the year 1. I matter 2. Progress, not perfection L4Q

I just watched Below Deck season 8, episode 16 and apparently there's one more episode to go. I've watched a few seasons when I get the chance for light entertainment, I've followed this one over the last few weeks. It was fascinating to see an outside view of Covid coming into the world as a small part of the story throughout the season and it's effect on people. Last year was insane, way too much going on, I had to change. I value that. :-)
