I've been off it for several years now and still chew the 2mg gum occasionally, the patches are the best initially because it's an even dose, it doesn't replicate the peak and trough like gum and smoking does.I tried the drugs and they were not for me. Vaping is not for me too similar. If you've done 60 days then you have done the hard bit, if you are concerned about relapsing under pressure or your effect on other people then just keep some gum around for the hard times, it does get easier.Remember that whatever drives you to go get a packet of smokes will still be there when the packet is empty.I have a relative who has been on the gum for over 5 years, there are no long term health effects of doing that as far as I have been able to ascertain.Well done and good luck.

.... the little reward you give yourself when you have nothing else to do. When you finally stop rewarding yourself you stop smoking. If you mentally stop there , its the addictive nature of the drug itself your fighting... I went cold turkey 30 years ago and never looked back.. These days I cant even stand the smell.. If you gone this far and you go back ' your a fool to yourself...

Congratulations, each extra day should be celebrated. Put the money you’d be spending aside and you’ll be worth a fortune shortly.

Hit the nicotine as hard as you need to, less calories also if you are eating more exercise is a great way to kill the monster and you’ll feel so virtuous ! I found being able to exercise more bought it’s own rewards and empowerment.

With the regular price rises of cigarettes and tobacco, it has now reached the threshold for me. It is simply too hard to ignore the cost savings per year now. I am at the lower end of the spectrum of smoking - generally a half-dozen ciggies per day, more on the weekend. That still adds up to about $90 per week - multiply $90 by 52 and you get $4680 per year I would have extra in my pocket. The problem for me is that I fucking love smoking. End of the day when I crack a beer and light up a ciggie is pure bliss that is impossible to describe to those that never smoked. I am well accustomed to the puzzled looks I get from people that ask me why I smoke and I explain that cigarettes have been a friend since I was a teenager. I will walk away from that friend of mine sometime soon(ish) with great reluctance. Starting next week. Or maybe the week after. Scratch that, I'll make it a New Years resolution. They always work.

So when you sucked in your very first lung full you thought “wow this is great I love this” ? I doubt it, it’s the nicotine talking.

Oh Okey.... Amen Brotha!!!! I too LOVED smoking. My hubby always thought it was bizaar how I'd easily quit while pregnant and breastfeeding then immediately take it up again. I just loved everything about it. Made me happy. I enjoyed it. I've not had even one solitary puff now for 3 years and I'd happily take it up again...... the nagging is soooo not worth it and thats literally the only reason I don't. And coning from a medical background I'm more than acutely aware of the risks..... doesn't outweigh my affinity.

Better than 6 months in a leaky boat? Congrats from a long time quitter who went cold turkey a year or so after the Mr. I'd been trying to give up almost all my life and now it's been a third of my life since. It gets easier. 🍑

Quoting 'usebi' So when you sucked in your very first lung full you thought “wow this is great I love this” ? I doubt it, it’s the nicotine talking. I did. My mate coughed his lungs up and thought it was gross. I still remember thinking it was quite alright actually. Craven A filters.

Can I say , congrats, you have obviously made the decision but can I add a bit to maybe help you keep motivated When ever I see someone smoker ( I was a smoker many life’s ago myself) I think of my poor old dad , now smokers will say it’s only they who it is hurting and in a way they are correct but to watch my father who was strong , active and some one I looked up to suffer from emphysema caused from it and eventually lung cancer turn into the little old man that could not move without a oxygen mask it still has that effect on me , sure we are all going to die from something but I just hope it’s. Quick for me instead of that last painful 3 years of my fathers life and the lasting effect it had on me and every one around him Keep it going mate good luck it’s not easy but hopefully this might add to the motivation to kick it

Quoting 'kisslids'I have noticed the bank balance already but I think I’m spending it on extra food. Lol Nicotine is an appetite suppressor, and smoking is a habit looking for a new hole to fill... one of my slight regrets but I still feel better physically. Peachy

Quoting 'PeachyPearL' Quoting 'kisslids'I have noticed the bank balance already but I think I’m spending it on extra food. Lol I don't smoke at work; when a craving hits me it usually strikes me as hunger. I chew on a tab of nicotine gum which works wonders. I of course eat at work as well, so it's not like I starve myself. I see no reason why I cannot continue with nicotine gum when I quit sometime in 2048. Nicotine is an appetite suppressor, and smoking is a habit looking for a new hole to fill... one of my slight regrets but I still feel better physically. Peachy

If you swallow the gum, does that count as food? I forgot to get back to this sooner 😊. I might not have been clear here that I related to Kisslid's mention of extra food after quitting. I was going to say smoking but went for nicotine instead after googling to check my facts. Where do you tuck your gum when you're kissing? 😂 👌 🍑
