However I will still answer my dear, loveable pipsqueaky ;) It was, without a doubt, the most insane and shocking thing I've ever witnessed in my lifetime... I was in my bedroom as a teenager, staying up late and surfing the channels on good ole' optus' vision (was like foxtel back in the day for optus customers). I skipped over the CNN channel and Fox News America, it was about 11pm at night I think, and I could see the first tower with the smoke bellowing out of it, and it was being reported that a plane had "accidentally" crashed into the world trade center. Obviously at this stage there was still confusion as to whether it was deliberate or not, but it was an odd thing to see so I kept watching a bit as I drifted off to sleep, I had work experience that week at a video-editing business for movies and TV shows, but I stayed up late enough to actually witness the second plane crashing into the other tower. It took me ages to realize that this was NOT another replay, but actually a second crash! That was the moment the world realized a terror attack was taking place. The rest of my family was fast asleep and I didnt want to wake them, and I tried to turn over and go to sleep myself, wondering what on earth was going on over there in NYC?? The next morning when I woke up I saw all the pictures and footage of the towers coming down, and realized that the single biggest terrorist attack in history had taken place. I went to work experience and luckily enough the place was full of TV's so I could keep up with what was going on and the shocking aftermath of it all, needless to say, nobody at the place was doing any work....everyone was just glued to the TV screens all day watching the news, it's still so clear in my mind and I think everyone remembers exactly what they were doing when this all took place. I went to NYC myself a few years ago, and of course I wanted to check out ground zero and the museum there - to pay tribute to the victims and also to remember what happened - at the very place that it happened. It's a very sombre, sad, and reflective experience, you simply cannot help but be swept up in the emotion of it all as you walk through that museum... If anyone goes to NYC, it's definitely worth seeing and paying tribute to the people who lost their lives to the most tragic and shocking event of the 21st century.

It was one of the most significant days of the 21st century of which it’s impact is still being felt today This forum came about as I had a day off work today and I spent it on Sydney Harbour on a ferry I was chatting with two American tourists on there and eventually the subject came up. They told me they thought no one remembered or cared anymore outside of NYC It got me thinking and now that Im at home I had no one to ask about or discuss it with, I thought I’d put it out there and I’ve been impressed with the postings so far Just a reflecting sharing forum, doesn’t have to political, just an exchange of your memories etc of the day and if one doesn’t want to contribute, perfectly fine Thanks for those who have shared so far Great story Supanovay

Nothing more boring than, 'where were you on this day.' And if it's not political whats the point really? If it is indeed the MOST SIGNIFICANT DAY EVER THIS CENTURY FOR ALL THE WORLD, maybe it is political? Maybe some perspective is needed. Importantly, perspectives other than our own navel gazing western ones? "I was watching TV and I saw it happen on TV. The end." who gives a fuck? Yes. A tragic and horrible event and no one questions that. But, do you think anyone on a sex site in Vietnam pipes up one day a year with: so, guys, the my lai massacre...! Thoughts?where were you?! THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DAY OF THE 20TH.... blah blah..."? But hey I'm a curmudgeon atm so that it in one's stride. We have plus sized models in the cover of Cosmo now so the world is doing good.... - Posted from rhpmobile

Peace and love to you both. 9/11 was a travesty, kinda makes us all realize how petty our grievances can be sometimes hey. Let's talk about some of the finer RHP related things again, like the latest movie: "Dildos in the mist" Whose going to go see it?

I slept through it I was living at home in the country of my birth so therefore it was afternoon when it happened. I was in hospital and was having surgery and missed the whole thing Next day I was pretty out of it and that night as well I didn't hear about it till about day 3 and that was courtesy of my elder sister who delighted in telling me that the world was at war and our country was under threat. I started crying (post anaesthetic blues) cause I did believe her. Biatch Where I lived we weren't subjected to the mass media saturation that I believe many countries had and I didn't learn a lot about 9/11 till I started watching docos on Foxtel when I moved to Australia, and I'm interested in what people were doing and their thoughts on that unbelievable day, cause I did miss it Years later I did go to NYC like Supernova but at the time they had only just started building the Freedom tower and there was no memorial or museum, waterfall etc I hope to see it one day like I saw Dachau I believe its important to remember, reflect and not forget

My mum heard it via the radio in the morning. As I was ready to get out of the house, she then told me about it. At that time I did not understand it, until I went to work. Someone at my work looked it up on the internet and that is when I learnt about it. My thoughts at that time? I did not understand things like that but felt very sad of the whole thing. Supernova - I went to NYC few years ago and visit where the planes crashed the towers. As I stood there, I can imagine and felt how it happened. It was surreal and super sad. I believe 9/11 incident is something we would not ever forget... s3d

However 9/11 was a deliberate act of terrorism, evil incarnate, premeditated, an event that changed our lives and the way we live forever The tsunami was a act of Mother Nature , who constantly reminds of who really is boss and she will continue to do so Not sure you can draw a correlation between the two events except that simply too many innocent people died in both incidents, all just going about their daily lives unaware of what was about to hit them Tragically sad in both cases

I was in Bourketown, camping at the old boilerworks on the Albert river. I’d got up, set my rods, pulled my crab pots, watched the crocs, then realised I had no beer so drove around to the pub. While the bartender went out to get my box of beer I was watching the tv, seeing planes crashing into buildings. I asked an old local next to me what movie it was, to which he replied “It’s not a Fucking movie” in his outback drawl. 5 minutes later another local stumbled in and conversations and speculations were flying. I remember him saying at one point “don’t fuckin worry, we’re all fuckin safe here in Bourketown, as no fuckin cunt knows where the fuck Bourketown is!” It’s etched into my mind. By the time I got back to my camp, my beer was hot as it had sat on the bar for about 3 hours, as I was transfixed watching the updates. As was everyone else there. Well, the 2 locals and the bartender.

Then, I remember it was surreal scary, talks of ww3 etc, I even rang my parents to see what news they were getting, in case war had broken out but hadn’t heard it yet at Bourketown. The few people I did see in the next few days were all like me, in a state of disbelief and shock, not knowing which way the world was headed. Now, I’m still abhorred by the tragedies that mankind inflict on each other, whether domestic or international scale events. I do have fear for the future of my children. Tho I do my utmost to remain optimistic. Meander stated it perfectly before regarding there’s hope as long as there’s good in the world, I’d like to think I’m one of the good to, and my children are and will be also. And yes, I do remember other tragic events, natural and man made, whether single death or many, so to those that discount this thread as dismissive of other events, grow a heart, don’t begrudge somone for having thoughts about a significant event, on the date of that events anniversary. 🤔

i lost two freinds that day and multiple of my freinds lost family ,this is a post from fb that shares the sentiments of many involved and affected by the day ,a different but interesting take that is never thiughtbiff till i saw this PLEASE READ ... REGARDING 9-11 POSTS: Who benefits when tragic photos are posted from that day?? It sure is a good way to make a terrorist day ... I'm betting terrorests love seeing graphic photo ... I'm sure they totally get off on it. It's a big win as far as they see it. I get that people make these posts because they never want anyone to forget. No one has forgotten... I don't post horrifying photos after hearing a family member of someone killed that day. They explained how those photos bring up all the pain they went through that day. They search the building counting windows to guess where their loved one was at the time their life was tragicly taken. I can't imagine how hard it is for the family of the person who jumped from the building every time they unexpectedly see that famous photo. Everyone remembers where they were on 9-11 ... NO ONE HAS FORGOTTEN. Let's leave the photos taken on 9-11 for history class. We need to remember history, but in my opinion, best done with photos of the current reflecting pools there in NY when it comes to Facebook and social media in general. I feel it is a better way to SHOW RESPECT for those who survived living with the loss of their loved ones. Thank you for taking the time to read this post mr b - Posted from rhpmobile

On the morning of Sept 12 Sydney time, my ex and I were woken by the clock radio at the usual time. News. The reports momentarily rolled around in our heads and we couldn’t comprehend the words we were hearing. It was as if we were still asleep, in a shared dream trying to make sense of what we were listening to Soon after we jumped to the lounge to see the foootsge, and just at say there in silence, horrified. I am not ashamed to admit I pondered the concept of bringing children into a world where that happens - Posted from rhpmobile

My husband was in the US Military then and we were based in Okinawa, Japan. An island that takes literally 7 hours to drive around with over 50,000 Military. I was playing with our young son with the TV on in the background. I couldn't believe what is was watching as tears ran down my face. In less than an hour everything was in lock down and plans were a go. I feared that my husband was going to be shipped off but that was his duty. I was a manager at the USO (Those who are old enough to know what this is 😂) and most of my employees were military working nights and weekends as a second job. I clearly remember driving onto the base and going from just showing my ID card to having my car search for bombs with my employees laying on sand bags with a machine gun pointed at me..... Very surreal. However I did remind them to be at work on time (joking). A very terrifying time and extremely sad. We are in America visiting family and here for my husband's father's 80th birthday which is today 9/11. - Posted from rhpmobile

I was in bed.. We were narrating our "Thoughts" as it was unfolding.. and when the "PLANE?????" hit the Pentagon, (But left a much smaller hole then itself, and no plane parts at the scene) mate said "Awesome - Now America has 'The Square' "THAT was fucking hilarious. REALLY.. :) So.. during our narrations.. we were "Seeing" shit in the scenes which.. honestly, an hour later in the replays, were NOT, and NEVER since, there to be seen. Our commentaries were therefore, soon turned to "Fucking Bullshit" -- AND, that summation has still not been reversed.

I was asleep when it happened and didn’t know till I got to work. To be honest I had no idea the significance of the event at the time. I’d never heard of the world trade centre, I didn’t know what it was or what went on there. My only question on the whole matter still stands, why is it called terrorism on our shores but war on theirs? Shouldn’t this (if indeed it was foreigners and an act of war and not a false flag attack) not called war or retaliation. If you keep kicking a dog it will eventually bite you. That’s what happened to America that day the dog finally bit them and their freedumb spreading in the arse. I still think it was a false flag attack planned and carried out by the CIA

I'll wait for (and most of you) you to commemorate the day of the Iraq invasion. Nearly 3000 Americans dead seem to be more important than 500,000 Brown people... 🤔🤔🤔🤔 It's perverse to choose one over the other no? I'd like to start with the My Lai massacre in Vietnam perhaps. Quoting 'DaleC82' If you keep kicking a dog it will eventually bite you. That’s what happened to America that day the dog finally bit them and their freedumb spreading in the arse. I still think it was a false flag attack planned and carried out by the CIA Have to agree with the first paragraph Dale, The American government spent decades invading, bombing and destroying innocent lives - particularly in the middle east - for their own selfish, political gain. The result is yes, it came to bite them on the ass. However suggesting it was an inside Job from an American Government Agency is a bit far-fetched, I highly doubt destroying their own world trade centre and killing 2000 innocent Americans could ever have been approved, in fact its outright ludicrous. What I was disgusted by (and I remember writing passionately about this in a year 12 essay) was the subsequent war in Iraq a few years later. The Iraq invasion was a disgrace, it had LITERALLY NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11, but the US used the bloodthirsty populous, who were still reeling from 9/11, to support any type of conflict, and therefore went to take the oil rich lands of Iraq under their control, convincing western populations (including idiot Australians and their pathetic sheepish government) that this was a just cause and that Saddam Hussain was somehow a danger to us all (remember the whole 'weapons of mass destruction' rhetoric that was never even proven?). In the end what it did was plummet a country into absolute turmoil, killed thousands of innocent lives including children, and created a brand new generation of American-hating, future terrorists in the making. Just think about it, a bombshell lands on a house in Baghdad in the middle of the night (good ole 'shock and awe' campaign!) and a little boy wakes up to see his house destroyed and his mother killed. He asks his father "Who bombed us daddy? Who killed mummy?" and he replies, in truth: "The Americans" And then you wonder why there are terrorists in the world...really? It's an ongoing vicious cycle, and without a doubt, America has a hell of a lot of liability when it comes to breeding terrorism.

I appreciate there is crossover here with thoughts of today but I’d appreciate it if you stay on topic There is direct correlation between 9/11 and terrorism and politics, so I have to disagree with the "staying on topic" notion, because, in actual fact, that IS staying on topic. You can't open a forum thread regarding a terrorist attack and expect all respondents to stay off the political debate of terrorism, pip. It's like starting a thread about Christmas but asking those who contribute not to stray off course talking about Santa Claus.

Why it's relevant can be debated. But if personal stories are what you want (God I loathe how much power people think they have) then don't try and control how people relate their story Political or otherwise.
