Censorship and moderation, meh. The whole notion of it bothers me. And yah, probably a third of my posts don't make it in. Frustrating doesn't really explain it.

Agreed with you there....Surely as open minded adults we can deal with what ever is posted and if not move on!!!

I post something and it often doesn't appear until late the next day. By then the topic is usually slowing down and post is out of date. Why do some appear faster?

I agree BJ. I have posted in a topic to come back and find that others who posted after me had there posts go in then mine would be shoved back in the pack. All well and good but it makes following the lines of discussion difficult. Also why then do posts/discussions get pulled like what Eunech and others have commented on? surely the moderaters wouldn't post a topic if it was deemed offensive? Better that then to pull it out once people have posted. Will wait to see how far down the pack this posts ends up...Only BJ's post is above me at the moment...

It took me weeks to get this new account up and running with instant privies. Lots of posting unitl the sensor gets tired of reading all my crap... lol... and then thinks.. omfg wtf! lol. Of course, there's no guarantee that it will stay that way... at least once I have had that privie taken away for minor misdemeanres... I guess. stalky

I'm lucky to check the forums once a day at the mo so doesn't really worry me if a post doesn't go up immediately.I think it's fair that you earn your right to have your posts pre-approved. We've done our time on the site and made good posts. Also, there are clearly people who use the forums for their own agendas and I'd rather not have to sift through all that myself.Forum moderation isn't a fun job (from experience).Does it REALLY matter if you don't see your posts go up ASAP?
-

well....yes...it DOES kinda matter if posts go up at all different times...because it then makes it hard to follow. My life wont end because of it....but it does make me kinda go meh...and not bother to read alot of the posts.I would prefer NO censorship and NO moderation...gives you a pretty good idea what that person is about. The troublemakers generally don't last long anyway.BJxxx

BJ, you will get people setting up multiple accounts just so that they can cause grief or target someone that they do not like... things could get very very nasty.. and well, not that I havent played in those playgrounds before... it can get very vindictive as you can well imagine.... In that environment, so as not to jeopardise your main account when you want to be agrressively nasty... you set up a fake profile that might only last a day before it is suspended by the sensor.. but that can provide the undesired effect of really giving some fee paying regular serious grief. I just dont think it would be a very pleasant environment combining nude avatars, instant access.. and people with an axe to grind and nothing to lose. Nasty. Now, I agree that all fee paying members should have instant access... they have something to lose... but guests... well, until you establish yourself and your good nature, these profiles should be monitored before posting into the forums. Just my opinion :p... (you forgot!!) Hugs Stalky

as Stalky said, the instant posts seem to be related to the number of posts you have made, and how much the system trusts you. (Good points on the trolling too)I haven't always had instant posts as a paid member, and after replying to a few topic on subjects that may be considered controversial topics the posts went back to 'delayed posting' mode until a few days later when it must've been decided that my posts could be trusted to go through straight away.I find it a bit awkward, you can't just scan down the page to where your last post was and resume reading from there. I think the trouble is that it inserts the posts when they were made - which makes sense if you are coming _back_ to read the thread much later, but not if you've followed it along.

but yanno....that kinda trolling bullshit is gonna go on regardless....although it would be nice if when you blocked a profile....that persons forum posts were blocked as well...showing they posted but not the content.I mean really....there are fuckheads out in the real world that love nothing more than to rub peeps the wrong way...and I must say...the forums get a tad boring when everyone is nice and amiable....lol.This isnt that much different from the chat rooms...so perhaps instant posting until there are a certain amount of complaints?I would prefer the trouble makers were censored AFTER THE FACT....rather than across the board censoring of all as a prophylactic.Just my opinion...BJxxx

Until fairly recently, as I'm sure you remember, all posts were moderated and would arrive pretty much at the same time which made the threads pretty easy to follow. Now, our Peachypear69 posts are among those that are currently moderated and it can be disconcerting to write a post that, sometimes, doesn't appear in the forums till over 24 hrs later. By that time the thread can be on page 2 which makes the chances that our post will even be read very slim.Jose's 'answer' seems to go at least part of the way to an explanation re: the level of membership enabling instant access. Something we noticed when we rejoined as guests was that we were moderated to start with, then we upgraded our membership {only to premium} and our access became instant. As stalky said though... and you might notice our mention above that we are currently moderated... there's no guarantee that it will stay that way...

It kinda says it all sometimes. I want the t-shirt that says 'Meh' :DI get the frustration factor but sometimes I think you need to be careful. I'm assuming moderation doesn't occur 24/7 so if some unsavoury member decides to post details (address, mobile phone number etc.) of a girl who rebuffed him earlier in the evening, that means someone's private details can feasibly be seen by a lot of late-nighters and not removed until some time the next day. I personally would hate for that to happen to me.In other forums where I have moderated, nasty posts tend to breed other nasty posts. You simply can't take them back once said or written. Even if you have some editing facility, what's read is read. So if someone accuses another member of something absolutely serious like child abuse, theft or rape, it should be allowed to be seen?Should we all be adults and thick skinned and ignore nasty posts? Perhaps but this place is supposed to be about fun and useful information. I'd rather the trolls go away and post on unmoderated forums personally.

Having only been on a short while I read some post that are very concerning. You would imagine many of the things said here are in fact a concern for the moderators. One would think that it is only a matter of time before the site finds itself in trouble with a member or guest taking action against it for a random comment made by some unthoughtful person. Many things are suppose to be said in jest or light of heart but are in fact down right nasty. As a new comer I am concerned about even posting a comment which does not seem to go against the majority of posters. I am not sure many people think before they make comment at all, I note some are accepted no matter what they say! What would happen if no moderatiion occured at all? One would think it would end in a free for all with little groups developing. Other becoming personally hurtful. It is simplistic at best to believe anything else would occur.

It is a bit of a bother when you spend half an hour writing up a big post then find it didn't get through for whatever reason. Don't even get an explanation on why or a chance to amend it to make them happy. Always tends to be with some of the better posts too...grrrr

Good observations, and accurate. You should never be afraid to post because you have a different opinion!Differences of opinion are good, and as long as people are not nasty, about it and make it personal a healthy divergence of views is most desirable. Most people can accept that their own opinion or belief is not the only valid one, but of course there are those that take exception and will want to hunt you down, guess its just a hazard of the Forum Poster.I guess if there was no censorship and everyone posts went up immediately, it would be... well...the chat room and we all know what goes on in there, The Forums is perhaps more the Thinking peoples Chatroom...mostly...lolSo Step up join in and contribute, it is the people that make this place what it is!Cheers Nev on Monday

of late, i can think of at least 4 forum topics that i have thoughtfully posted on. now let me say this. in no way were these posts of mine crass or vulgar. there was no profanity.i followed the comment rules to the letter. and as much as i hate how politically correct this world has become, i would re-read before i would submit, to maybe re-word or euphemise, for the benefit of any lily livered punters who cant handle someone shooting straight. i put time and much thought into these. and you know what? the forum police thought they would play mum and dad, and decided that my input was too controversial, or what ever other petty reasons they had for not allowing me to share an opinion. so yes, i find it extremely annoying, and i have'nt posted for a while now because of that.(sound of violins playing) as other people have said, we are all adults here. i find it insulting and condescending, to think that someone is monitoring our posts, and censoring our thoughts and opinions. if someone posts something blatantly offensive, i'm sure we possess enough intelligence to pass over any of their other posts, and not pay them any mind.

this whole censorship thing is an insidious monster, that is pervading all levels and aspects of our lives. which brings me to internet censorship, and its implications for free speech. http://wiki.block-the-filter.org/start at least there are some people who understand how important our right to free speech is, and are fighting for our right to speak freely. peace out

You would imagine many of the things said here are in fact a concern for the moderators. One would think that it is only a matter of time before the site finds itself in trouble with a member or guest taking action against it for a random comment made by some unthoughtful person. ---snip----What would happen if no moderatiion occured at all? One would think it would end in a free for all with little groups developing. Other becoming personally hurtful. It is simplistic at best to believe anything else would occur. (disclaimer: IANAL, but I did watch Perry Mason, and this area interests me) There is devil in the details, because if they don't moderate a post they don't know the content it has. They can then take advantage of the common law "innocent dissemination" defence, or the Broadcasting Standards Act which has provisions that content hosters in Australia aren't liable if they weren't aware of the nature of the material (i.e. most webforums). So if you caused me damage, I could go after you, but I couldn't go after RHP if they just put your post straight up. However, if they'd actively moderated it then that suggests they're more than just innocent re-publishers - and they'd then have to delve into their technical system for moderating to show they weren't liable e.g. maybe they just batch everything together and run a basic filter to look for bad words or email addresses or something that wouldn't have made them likely to read and check your individual post. You can protect everything in the first place with moderation, or take action after the fact. But RHP themselves would most likely only be liable if they were told of a post and failed to act on it.What is wrong with "meh"? its is a great word, sums things up perfectly sometimes, like "bleh", "duh", etc.
