Discrimination at its worst!

February 11 2011

sex

Bryan and I have been fighting the bank (suncorp metway) to allow us to have an eftpos machine in our club. They have refused because of the style of club we own.We find this so amazing, they allow people to use their cards for sex on line chats, sex on the phone, in adult shops, probably can even use your card to pay for sex at a brothel..yet.....they wont allow us to have one so our patrons can use their cards to enter our venue. We are so angry and not happy, and not sure what we can do to fight this. If anyone has any suggestions let us know.It is certainly discrimination and we are so tired of defending the lifestyle to those that simply dont understand what the club is about. It is not just sex..it is a nightclub...and where do they get the right to be so discriminative in this day and age of democracy. It seems it is not democracy but a dictatorship with the banks.Your thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.Bryan and Leesa and JohnCouples International.

Hi guys, Have you looked at other banks to see if they will do it for you? I'm sure there are many financial institutions out there that would welcome a progressive, successful business like yours!! I'm pretty sure Mike's Place had eftpos?

I am not too sure about who owns them or if they maybe affiliated with any particular bank ... but instead of eftpos have you thought about a Cashcard ATM machine? Maybe not the best alternative though for what you are wanting to offer to your patrons....

Definitely descrimination Leesa. If they (suncorp) actually said to you that they will not give u an eftpos machine because of the type of club that is being run then you definitely have grounds for a law suit! In the meantime I would look at other banks. To be honest (as you guys are totally open with your lifestyle) I would probably look at approaching the media. They love this kind of stuff. How dare Suncorp deny a legitimate business!Mrs SAOT xx

Refusal to provide you with all the facilities they would provide to any other business definitely sounds discriminatory. . I work in a bank and I've never heard of anyone being denied a service based on the nature of the business. if they take fees from you, they owe you good service. the one i work for doesn't give out merchant terminals unless you have an account tho so if you need something while you argue with your bank try merchantlink, they're affiliated with yet another bank but i've heard of a few of our business customers using them and i think they do eftpos-only type stuff. . good luck!

Personally...I would ring the ACCC and have them call the CFO (google it, first name is John) that I happen to know personally. His ass will pucker sideways as the last thing he needs or wants to deal with in his rather "illustrious" career full of lots of unexpected moves is the press that this might get. | Then after that...call another of the "big 4" banks. It won't take long and you might just find the ones that are carrying the mandated SG superannuation cover for places like the Daily Planet here in Melbourne. They would be hard pressed not to offer a nightclub an EFTPOS machine and I do know that a few of the guys at these banks actually argue over who gets to service the accounts. They are banks afterall and we all know they enjoy... | ...screwing us out of every penny.

Big Banks of the Big Four who will have no qualms whatsoever in supplying you with any merchant facility you require. . And whilst they are all bastards, you should be looking into the likes of the NAB or CBA, where the precedent has already been set for establishments similar to yours. . But then I'd pursue the matter anyway, just on principle. . Good Luck!

Hi Guys MrDare is correct, in addition to his locations mentioned I know for a fact that showgirls in Brissy CBD has one has does the other venues of the same type. They are not from the major bank's & are the smaller floor standing type but they do need a hardwired phone point with a permannent connection and a powerpoint. They will only install them to a solid floor ie concrete for security reasons. I have been involved with these installations as part of the renovations of the venues. I can find out the details & pass them along if you would like. Will mention it to Bryan next week. As for the big banks ... well they miss out Mr Nawtyandnice :-)

Leesa their are private EFTPOS companies available without changing banks, most bank can (but often wont) give you a eftpos facility without changing banks. EFTPOS is not owned by the banks, it is a private company that interacts with the banks. Try I think its call "multipoint eftpos" who will install a terminal and also provide you with credit card facilities as well. There is pleanty of options available, just watch the rate they want to charge you, should only be 9 - 10 cents per transaction and credit cards should be 2 - 3 % (even less) Good luck
