Do gay couples have a harder time staying together?

October 28 2011

Have any studies been made into the success rate of gay relationships compared to those of heterosexuals? Do gay couples feel that social predjudices force them apart or make them more determined to stay together?

It's easy to see the extent of the predjudice against same sex unions. There would be no surprises arrisng from such a question. My question, in part, asks whether these predjudices drive couples apart easier or whether they act to strengthen resolve.

are there really any noticable prejudices against male couples these days? where we live, i know of a few male couples. one couple has the children of both (previously in straight relationships) living with them on alternate weeks...they do fine....kids and dads all treated properly and with respect...another was my own high school maths teacher...and his partner...i left senior in 1979 and they had been a long term couple then...they live locally to me still and i often see them at the local supermarket doing their groceries....if anything, being open with thier sexuality has put everyone at ease.... we all knew who and what he was way back in the mid 70's, and i can say that i'm not the only former student that thinks of these guys with fond memories... truly nice guys both.......other couples i have met over the years are, as far as i know, still together..you'll find that gay couples will, naturally, gravitate to other male couples for their social outlets, and really dont expose themselves to all that much unfavourable criticism and prejudice. why expose yourself when there is no need? in all honesty though, you'd be hard pressed picking who's gay and who is not, even at a gay pub.....gay males are not easily identifiable any more, unless they are outwardly camp with their gayness...look at ian roberts for example....hes a big brute of an ex footy player......hardly a gay man anyone would willingly be prejudicial against........
