Face jobs

September 12 2016

Nah not referring to face fucking......sorry. Wanted to post this in Girls Ask but I'm not allowed so I'll bore all the guys (well not all i hope). I'm talking skin care for our most important bit. Our face. Having recently tried Microdermabrasion for the first time, i tried to bluff my way through the bit where they ask what regime and products i use. A pregnant pause when i said i use coconut oil to cleanse. Shock horror...... I inherited my late mothers skin products and once they get used up, will need to develop my own choice of product. And with the expensive stuff they tried to sell me after they finished my treatment as i floated to the counter, i wondered wether the expensive brands are any better than the common brands at a fraction of the price. So people tell me your secrets of how you stay at your best. I need to wind the years back....... Annie

I think my skin's in pretty decent shape for my age...I don't have any wrinkles yet and rarely get acne.I think I've avoided wrinkles so far because I've avoided the sun and I never smile. Smiling gives you wrinkles. Nah, just kidding about that last bit( but I still believe it does.. ). I shave my face and/or neck most days, but I haven't used alcohol aftershaves since forever. I always moisturise morning and evening...when I was a lad I'd "borrow" mums Oil of Ulan and my skin seemed to agree with it.Several years and more later, something must have changed in the recipe...it started irritating my skin. So I trial-and-errored for a while till I discovered that Nivea Body...the cheap body lotion...didn't irritate me. Winner. I stuck with that for some years more until something in that started to irritate me.A pharmacist suggested this pricy-ish Avene moisturiser, made from French spring water or some shit, for 40 bucks for a little pot...and telling me how natural and pure it was.I gave it a go for 2 weeks, but the red blotchy irritation didn't go away. So much for pricier is better. Anyway. Eventually I found that the Nivea Pure and Natural line agreed with my skin, and the redness went away again...but not with the SPF ones. My skin didn't like sunscreen. Problem solved. My skin is calm( I also use Seacret Spa facial cleaners and moisturiser from time to time. I quite like their stuff. And the Israeli girl who sold it to me was so beautiful.. ) and my hands are soft( because I've used moisturiser forever ).

I have a lot of sun damage from spending hours in the sun cooking as a teenager. I regularly use vitamin e on my face I haven't found anything that works quite as good. I have found that drinking lots of water keeps my skin softer and cleaner looking. I also use a scrub every couple of weeks for a deep clean and a daily cleanser. Brand is Artistry, probably middle of the range in price.

What's that? Lol I've been lazy and use baby wipes to get makeup off my face or soap. Sometimes I chuck a bit of whatever moisturiser I have on 😕 But it's catching up with me big time! So I will be starting some sort of cleanse and moisturise routine soon. Agree with the sunscreen! Best anti ageing product ever!!! As far as actual products - the older women in my family used to slather on Ponds cold cream at night and they all had the most beautiful skin! A beauty therapist I know swears by ASAP products. They are all natural, Aussie made and although the outlay may be higher they are big products volume wise so value for money. And a lot of people swear by rose hip oil for your face - I can't come at the smell.

is my go to for the moisturiser and serum I use at night. A bit pricey, but worth it for me because they contain effective ingredients and they're one of the few brands that base their products on scientific research to determine which ingredients actually work and which are a waste of money. Also free of fragrance and other ingredients such as essential oils that can often be irritating to skin. Only available online but they have an Australian site and I've never had any issues with ordering or delivery. For cleansing I've been using Simple face wash (anything soap and fragrance free you don't need to spend much money for cleanser). In the morning sunscreen (sun is the biggest ager), these days you can get good sunscreens that are fragrance free and have things like vitamin e added.

I have had almost continually since I was 19 and on the odd occasion when I shave and go beardless my face skin looks quite soft and young, especially when compared to the back of my hands that have had constant exposure to the elements. So I think the message is avoid the UV radiation. The beard thing mightn't work quite as well for you ladies????

I use Twenty8 products....I love them and they are available online. I have very sensitive skin and never have a reaction from their products. I take my makeup off with a Jurlique cream cleanser...it's the only thing I can use, I can't even use coconut oil. But the thing that makes the biggest difference to my skin is my health. Lots of water, sleep and fresh unprocessed (as much as possible) food.

Choice magazine did some research on this topic, and came up with recommendations. As usual, the pricey ones weren't the best ones to buy. Not my area so don't recall where particular brands / lines came in, but if you're really interested it may be worthwhile a check on their site.

Used Ponds day and night creams and hence I'm finishing them off for her. She was 91 but looked 10 years younger. She also dabbled in Avon. I shave only with coconut oil but the therapist said it blocks up the pores before trying to sell me a tube of cleanser for $60.....

I've had a regime for years, as young as early teens. Then it was Olay, the light moisturiser which I started my daughter on too when she was 12/13 :) Now it's shisheido 'future solutions', I'm fanatical about my skin care :) Apparently (and I believe it, who wouldn't) that when I recently had a skin test on my face, my face is 10 years younger then my chronological age :) Mary xx

I use Lily Herbacuticals. I suffer from dermatitis, psoriasis and roseca. These products are plant based and were recommended by dermatologist. I have had no reaction what so ever. A little pricey but well with it. - Posted from rhpmobile

Facial rejuvenation such as hydro microdermabrasion or RF photo laser for wrinkles it's good it renews your collagen in your face. Also you can try El naturals aloe Vera gel & macadamia oil put it on before you go to sleep. You need to keep your face hydrated all the time & put sun screen during the day. - Posted from rhpmobile

QV gentle wash for body and face (or cetaphil face wash), QV skin lotion for body, Sukin facial moisturiser. Most of the QV range is free of colors, soap, perfume and lanolin and are pH balanced. Why put extra muck on your body, it gets enough from everyday living. All available at the wonderous Chemist Warehouse and Priceline, all very reasonably priced. The QV stuff is available in mega 1.25kg pump packs and are so reasonably priced (around $20 for the big pack) I lather it on. Apparently I have incredibly soft skin so they must be doing the job. ☺

Sunscreen is everyone's your friend. Years ago when I worked at a major Melb department store in the cosmetics area, Clinique absolutely walked out the door. Most popular brand. It was more expensive than some brands but that never seemed to deter anyone from purchasing it.At various times over the years I have tried cheaper products but I always seem to go back to Clinique. It's range has grown and gotten even better since the days I sold beauty products. They have something for everyone Annie. Check it out. In reading the posts I notice many are using coconut oil. Haven't tried it for cleansing myself but it works for lots of other things so if you guys and ladies are finding it's working for face cleansing......go for it.

sunscreen yes, bucket loads of that as well. Currently taking applications, looking for someone to give me my first application for the season. My first appearance in the bikini this summer will need special care to prevent sunburn. So a liberal application will be needed and best to do it really slow, so as not to miss any spots

AHA and BHA exfoliants, you'd probably want to do a bit of reading about them first but they can be very good for anti-ageing and other skin issues such as redness, sun spots, dry patches. Available commercially fairly widely these days including from Paula's Choice that I mentioned before. If you use them you definitely need to use sunscreen as well.

Lots of people have reactions to sunscreens with the chemicals. Seems the higher the rating, the more problems. 30+ and 50+ also have the micro particles that may be seen to cause issues with them entering the body. I only use 15+ as i find i burn less than the higher rating one's. Prob because easier to apply evenly.

I have treated my body and skin like crap for so many years - I don't put anything on it except makeup which I don't wash off, I smoked for 24 years and I have been living off sugar and fried food! In saying that no one believes my age when I have no makeup on - they all think I look much younger, but I've seen it catching up with me recently. So it's off to the shops this weekend to by some products I think! As far as sunscreen goes my face reacts to every type I have put on my face. If I get the tiniest bit of sun while wearing sunscreen, my face breaks out in a red burning rash. So if wear sunscreen on my face I have to wear a full face of makeup over the top to prevent that.

There is a very good article on the Paula's Choice website about sunscreens and all the various fear-mongering that goes on around them (that the ingredients in them cause cancer, that nanoparticles can get into your body and do all sorts of nasty things). Basically there has been a lot of research into the ingredients in sunscreens and there's no evidence of any health and safety concerns. Unfortunately people tend to be afraid of things that sound scary or that they know little about (chemical names - dihydrogen monoxide anyone?) and scientific literacy isn't well taught unless you specifically study those things at the tertiary level. Everything we ingest, put on our bodies, inhale etc. is made of chemicals. You can't escape chemicals. Natural isn't always automatically better or safe either. What has been proven is that sun exposure is a significant risk factor for skin cancer. Weighing up the mountain of evidence supporting that vs the no evidence of safety risks from sunscreens, and living in the skin cancer capital of the world, I'm very comfortable with my daily use of 'chemicals' to decrease my risk of getting skin cancer. Note that a few people here have mentioned that they have reactions to sunscreen and obviously that's a legitimate reason to not use a chemical one.

The asap moisturizering daily defence. With SPF uva + uvb protection it's fragrance free and not tested on animals .Just a friendly suggestion find a really good beuticion and get a free skin annalist they can see how your skin is and recommend what you need , it only takes half an hour and then you can make a decision on way prices you want to pay . I just use every morning and night the Clinque mild soap then the clarifying lotion and the asap on top of that .

I have been shockingly terrible until 2 years ago. All my life been a smoker, drinker, sun baby (no sun screens) but finally decided to take care of my skin. Started off with some expensive creams from specialty stores but all they really did was make my skin softer. My sister in law is a consultant for Rodan & Fields in the USA (the are the creators of Proactive) . I asked her to send me some products, although I do tend to forget a couple days out of the week I wouldn't try anything else now...amazing results, so amazing that I' am going to be a consultant in the near future when they launch here in Australia. Mornings I do the reverse, which has eliminated all my sun and age spots, night time I do the refine (it's a home mico roller) to produce more collagen and reduces wrinkles (forget those expensive microdermabrasions)...I just love this regime. keep an eye out for when they launch here

Coconut butter/oil all the way here. Allergy free and the price is right.Find it in the cooking aisle at WW. Baby's waterproof sun block out for those days at the nude beach. Does not irritate the eyes or other rooms. Mr decided he wanted the short cut to a brown bum. Medium to well done, a week later and after extreme exfoliation he went back to the sunscreen.

Quoting 'Cyclone_Annie' Lots of people have reactions to sunscreens with the chemicals. I only use 15+ as i find i burn less than the higher rating one's. Prob because easier to apply evenly. I've mentioned this before but if you haven't tried, try Coles homebrand. It is incredible. I used to use Banana Boat sunscreen and would always get burnt on my face, and body at the beginning of summer, and worse, noticed freckles appearing on my legs and body that weren't there before, a sure fire sign the sunscreen isn't doing what it should be doing, and I could feel myself burning, it's so thin now, it soaks into the skin. However, I ran out one day, and grabbed a bottle of the Coles brand just to keep me going until I could find a better price for the other stuff, and omg it's sooooo much better. It leaves a coating on the surface and you don't burn, and about half the price It's all I use now. Banana Boat sunscreens used to be good years ago, but they changed it somewhere along the line. My advice to everyone is don't judge a sunscreen by it's price, you won't necessarily get a better one if you pay more. I found the opposite and I was really relieved. I stop stop the sunburn on my face. Just my thoughts but give it a try

I swim a lot in the ocean and the Coles sunscreen doesn't wash off like the others do, it last for hours, while I'm in and out of the water, I don't have to keep applying more, awesome
