I read it as a no intimacy one off.

While I see “hooking up” as a currently used common phrase..... you hit the nail on the head Foxy It’s ambiguous...... and I avoid ambiguity of communication It seems to me that people tread lightly around what they REALLY want to say which in most cases would be “get together with a sexual aim in mind”. Why you’d aim for that before even meeting someone and based purely on photos and a few words on a screen or over the phone is a mystery to me though...... but perhaps that’s just me. - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'SuperFoxxxy' *It could mean anything from from kissing to oral, to penetration intercourse.Ms Foxy The beauty of hooking up is the intimacy shared by 2 or more people who are virtual strangers in such a short period of time. Therein lies the joy of the intimacy because everyone is in agreement as to what is gonna happen and everyone feels safe in that environment.

that simple, that raw. no need to think it, just be in it, the hook up that is. the minute you go into a 'hook up' thinking its a hook up, it will only ever be a hook up. labelling makes it so. by just being, the so called hook up can be anything or nothing.

Meet = coffee / drink to suss you out. Hook up = sex, but depending on discussion beforehand can be intimate sex. It is sex usually on that occasion - “let’s hook up tonight”. However, does not mean there will be only the one occasion. Sex = let’s have sex. But regardless. Hook up does not mean when we do meet you are consenting to sex or I can assume consent. So even if it means sex, it is not a guarantee or expectation of sex. Further, even if a person consents at any and all times they can say no. And no one should or can get annoyed, angry, aggressive if after meeting they go - nope, it’s not on.

I agree with those who basically say any or all... For a hook up, I'd be thinking sexual encounters of some form would definitely be happening, but how far you go would be for further discussion... As for single or repeat.. I think it could be either... If it's a good hookup, why wouldn't you like to revisit.... - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'VivalaKoko' I read it as a no intimacy one off. Is the same, if I read "hook up" I consider it will be a ONS no lead up, no follow up.

Thought it meant the first time you get together for sex, may or may not be whatever level of intimacy, as in, "we hooked up". However, it depends on context, what the surrounding sentence says or is asking. Subsequent encounters might be described with a slightly different description. Is an on going relationship with a FWB or FB more likely to subsequently say, "Do you want to get together tonight?" Is sex then implied? Given legalities re consent. I guess this is the problem with language, it's fluid, it is constantly evolving. Description could be regional or pertain to a single demographic. As ML said, ambiguity can present misinterpretation. Mr. urn. .

how do you remove the intimacy of being with someone ? follow up.. why would you? i thought it meant jumping right to the sexy parts as in you would rather test their physical compatibility before anything else or its akin to picking up (ive only ever heard it in social context "you see last night Jane and Barry hooked up") so if i was asking for a hookup, id feel i have enough information that i dont need to ask you on a date, i already know i like you, hence lets hook up i had never even considered people would consider it removed from intimacy ...mmm interesting
