HorMoans

March 30 2013

I don't know about anyone else but for me it's gets a bit aggravating that female hormones are brought up so often when women in the forum have run ins. Like all we're all ruled by our cycle aligning and there's nothing more to it than that... though I'm sure the fellas are usually only joking when they say things like that... right guys? I'll be the wise old age of half a century this year and I'm quite proud of my longevity, that I've continued to keep on keeping on despite or maybe even because of the trials I've faced in what really doesn't feel like that long a life to date. The main thing I wanted to talk about here today was female hormones which for me have always been, to put it nicely a pain. Irregular to begin with, nothing like starting your periods while in the middle of a hot date, then having them for several weeks at a time. I went on the pill to help with this as a 15 year old which kept everything under control for years till I had my first child and went through the hormonal changes of pregnancy. Even the sky was crying with me the day my first was born. Went back on the pill as soon as possible until it was time for my second child. A much better result overall for the lead up to and after the birth but I never went back on the pill after the age of 25. Then I started having severe period pains and depression as my cycle went it's rounds. I mean really? How good a mood do you expect me to be in when I'm in so much pain half of the time? My periods would also make me susceptible to bouts of IBS which is not something you want to experience if you never have. That made for painful sex and many Dr visits and a couple of operations to work out what was going on for me. I tried the pill again only to find I was now intolerant to lactose which brought on the worst IBS attack ever, so that was a no go. It wasn't till I was in my early 40s that I learned of the Mirena and decided to give that a go, initially out of concern that I didn't want to be getting pregnant to anyone we were meeting with during my time with the Mr on RHP. There was some painful moments during the insertion where the Doc had to try three different size tools to get it inserted at the opening of my uterus and a few painful months as my body adjusted. But oh woah, I can't tell you how awesome it is not to have all the pain assocaited with those periods now that I don't have them anymore. Aside from the relief of the dscomfort of not having to wear tampons or a pad.But and yes there is a but and the reason I decided to post today, I'm in the second half of my cycle right now and my boobs are, on the good side, swollen which is quite impressive to look at hehe but on the bad side swollen and twinging. Any one know of anything to help with that? Now is not a good time to annoy me. Peachy PS: Are there any guys or gals who'd care to share their experiences of having or being around a woman experiencing a hormoan moment?

I love my patch years ago women were told no hormone replacement its bad for you, but a woman doctor I know who is around 75 said stick those suckers back on again, as I was tired, grumpy and had NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sex drive at all hormones do affect you and very much so , moods, how you burn fat(that middle tyre as you get older) how wet you get , a range of things Men have problems as well as they age, cranky old bugga syndrome and getting and keeping a hard on But its the price we pay for long life , and we are all supposed to wear out with time. Yes I am a moody cow at times and yes women can get very cranky when hormonal or not, women are different to men and do handle conflict a tad different to men women say in 20 sentences what a guy would say in one Yes women on here get a bit nasty a times , men they just do not feel it is that important to waffle on.

My mum used homeopathy medication instead of HRT. There were no side effects, i.e. hot flushes. She said she felt fine during that time. It is an alternative but don't self medicate. Best talk to a professional about dosages. For those who never tried homeopathy, it treats the individual rather than the condition. So medication for one person can be totally different for someone else.

Sometimes we argue like a pack of bitches, sometimes we are as serene as the Dalai Lama himself. Sometimes she comes up behind me and scares the shit out of me. Most of all we have an understanding, we have to live with each other we accept that we may not get along 100% of the time. But we are kind to each other anyway. I'm eternally thankful that my hormones and I have created 3 special kids.

But rather agreeing with you....Amen to Mirena! Hormones can sometimes be your BFF...or your nightmare....sometimes it's great to be a woman and other times it sux....but living in complete harmony with your hormones for the rest of your lives...easier said than done. :-) Mrs Bi

You mentioned IBS and Lactose intolerance, IBS is very often mis diagnosed Coeliacs desease, they have the same symptoms. Most Coeliacs start out lactose intolerant , the only way to know for sure is to have a biopsy/ colonoscopy.

Peachy I wont enhance on the information already given by the other ladies / men ... except to say .. that the Mirena is a god send .. GOD knew what SHE was doing when SHE allowed this to be put on the market .. But with the swollen and twinging boobs .... place raw cabbage leaves on your boobs .. (same as they do in the maternity wards to reduce the milk flow for post delivery women) ... there is a natural chemical in the Cabbage which relieves the pain and tingling .. only need them inside the bra for an hour or two .. and all discomfort should go ..

One problem tho....NOT a good look bloody leaves hanging out of the your top of bra.. :-) GUS you should try them on your penis, when ever it gets swollen and there's no release at bay??? ;-) FOXY- Posted from rhpmobile

The only problem I had with menopause was I so horny all the time. I know it is the body's last ditch effort to reproduce, but blimey, I couldn't walk past a man without looking at his arse and wanting to touch it. Now, many years after, I have started on pessaries on the advice of my dr. For a few niggling symptoms, wasn't looking for treatment with HRT and if I don't see a difference after a couple of months I will cease it. I have rarely had menstrual problems or seemed greatly affected by moodiness. As I said one of the lucky ones.

LOL Smiling, thank you for the grin! You gave me a laugh that I much needed. What're ya trying to say Tuscan? That I coulda said all that in a minimal way? Now where would the fun be in that for me??? All those letters on the keyboard to use and ley's face it... at my fingertips! A bit like men really... ;-)Lol Meeka, no it doesn't help does it. Even if it's true at some moments, it's not like like that's all we're made of! I like to know sometimes that I'm just being a bitch, no hormones included. :-D Very clever Sir Zu, I have a fondness for rescue remedy when I remember to use it. Sometimes I'm my own worst enemy. Thanks for the giggle Paintme, it's a li'l scary I'm looking over my shoulder now... though it would be nice to think my hormones might give me a warning... to avoid myself... hmmm... Now which of my multiple personalities should I be calling on NEXT??? ;-)Hmmm Freya, I think you should be keeping your mind out of the Dicktionary!I bow to you Mrs Bi, easier said than done eh? Looove my Mirena!Ugh Slm, I've had the pleasure of one laparoscopy and three colononoscopies so far and am now on a regular 5 yearly repeat of the colonoscopy :-(. Waking up and trying to climb off the table during the first colonoscopy will be an everlasting memory and tale to tell lol. They sedate me a little deeper since then. IBS it is with a lack of any other diagnosis... and with several benign tumours removed, hence the 5 year check ups. Ick!Lol MrGreen, quit moaning, that's my job! :-DVery clever dear Sir, good to see you! xxxWith all our tales of veg shopping in the forums Eventful, I'm thinking the day I peel those leaves off the cabbage after starting at the veg section, and then finish shopping will be a memorable tale to tell. My boobs are still swollen as I type! Not twinging any more though... WHEW! ;-)Wanna come shopping with me Foxy? 0:-DGotta love the benefits MsMarvelous. I hope the pessaries work out your niggling problems and leave you with the benefits as there are many of and should be appreciated. We can moan but the good tmes have to be appreciated. I hope my menopause is a welcome time when it arrives lol. Thanks everyone, it has been a pleasure following along as life took over after my moments of sharing on a couple of thrreads. xXx
