It can't be difficult. I made a suggestion on a website using a nickname and a new yahoo email address and within a day I had someone phone me on my home number about it. Hugs Stalky

Ms Saturn, Anyone can be found..Any information you give any person can be used to find you.Particularly mobile numbers. There are steps you can take to minimize the risks, but eventually if you do meet someone, even if its in a location away from your home, that person can track you. Private investigators are specialists at that. ITS one of the risks you take, but hopefully nothing ever comes of it. Cheers

There's also the risk of being outed... People with responsible jobs do not want their reputation compromised by being portrayed as a sex deviate. Not everyone has an open mind and often the conclusions jumped to are all bad. No doubt there are various politicians, judges, clergy, policemen, social workers and any other profession whose career would be destroyed if it was known that they participate in a bit of bondage and discipline, dominance and submission or sadism and masochism (BDSM).

Of course you are traceable with enough information. But does a stranger you meet online need to know that information? Does your MSN, hotmail or yahoo address link to your full name? Do you randomly invite people to your facebook page? Do you ensure that your mobile doesn't send it's number when calling? If you are any way smart, you can make it very difficult for some random person to track you down from online contact. Of course there are those that brag they can trace anyone on the net only armed with a user name and a photo, although I have yet to actually see this in practise. Maybe these people should be working for ASIO pmsl

"to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day,Thou canst not then be false to any man"Spoken by Polonius in Hamlet. It means "Do not deceive yourself". We leave our foot prints all over the internet and the only protection we have is the vast number of foot prints makes it a little harder.

To a large extent. It all depends on how much information you have uploaded. For example, when you joined the site, did you use your rea name, or an alias? Your real e-mail address, or an alternative one which can get burnt (Disposed of)?How much info you put on the site is dictates how easy it is to track someone down.I still have mates in the industry who regularly use the computer to gain info. RHP has bugger all info, however facebook and the like are an investigators dream! The only other way i know of is through cookies etc

hmm - it really depends. I use disposable names and email addresse on RHP that are very hard to trace. Sure if you google my username or email address you can't find out much more than that. You will need access to googles back end servers to find out more about me which you can't do unless you are a hacker or have legal documents from some law authority. Prior to meeting me face to face or on webcam, you actually have no idea if my photos are indeed my photos. They could well be grabbed from facebook or similar location and used by anyone. My point there is that everything is fake until yuo meet the person face to face... then there is a whole lot more realism about it that is "harder" but not impossible to hide. Yes - the worlds intelligence agencies are using things like facial recognition software over facebook and google. There are cases in process now where people are identified and caught using the info in photos on facebook. If you believe in conspiracy theorists then you might hear that facebook was started as a way to gather such information and it no more than one intelligence agencies bright idea... The USA used to deny the existance of things like Carnivore or Echolon - two systems designed to monitor traffic... both exist now... I have a friend who plays "tag" with the government officials in the US using these systems... he's one scarey dude. Point being that you can reasonably protect your identity on the internet with disposable addresses and names from "most" people. But you can not hope to remain anonymous forever from those with power and access such as hackers / government types. Private investigators employ techniques that are often "grey" in nature... Hopefully MsSaturn won't chase me to the ends of the earth... heck - I'll come to her ;-) Wayne

It is interesting that all respondees to this thread are over 40 (Stalky excepted). This doesn't seem to be a concern for the next generation (i.e our kids) who pack the internet with personal information via twitter, facebook, youtube and the like.I worry. Once a photo or information is on the internet it can be copied and usually can't be repealed.Even our amateur pics here can be copied easilyI suppose its a big step to share your life with the whole world - forever.Mr. SR.

There is very little that isn't tagged on the internet. Back in the early search engine days (since we are all over 40 we will remember the start of Google !!) it took a long time to find the information (anyone want to read a thesis on the topic ??...rather boring). Anyway.. nowadays, it's bloody quick and easy. I have published a book, and several articles. I've been in the news and in other areas of the media so there are going to be lots of foot prints about me. Does that mean I should deny myself the joy and pleasure of a site such as RHP ? It's a little like Tiger Woods... just because he's famous, should he deny his desire for cheating and fucking other beautiful women ? Hell NO ! He took the risk. He played, he got burnt. If you don't play sometimes you risk major psych illness (eg depression). Life can either be a no win situation or you give it your all and keep fighting. Sure.. I'm cautious. It seems like most people doubt my photos are real (they are) but I will continue to be cautious and only disclose limited information to select people. BTW ... Niceguy... if you come and teach me everything you know about internet security...I'll teach you a few insider tricks about my business !!! (Have you booked your ticket yet? You tease !) xx Ms Saturn
