I believe it is a passive aggressive saying...I believe it creates confusion! I also believe some people say it as a poor excuse for poor behavior. Over hearing it as well. Foxy

1/ "Life is too short" 2/ "Just get over it" 3/ "What ever!" All excuses to pacify someone. Don't say them to me as I'll clock you over the head with my hand bag. Foxy

Quoting 'SuperFoxxxy' I believe it is a passive aggressive saying...I believe it creates confusion! I also believe some people say it as a poor excuse for poor behavior. Over hearing it as well. Foxy I also think people use it to dismiss and disregard struggles that others have. Sometimes friends and family are in a funk (per other topic :)) and they don't need to be told to get over it, move on, life's too short and all that jazz. Yes, sometimes people DO need to be told that, but there are many folk who use the phrase simply because they don't have the interpersonal skills to connect with and accept when another is having a tough time. Like gaz, I use the phrase to kick my own ass and focus myself in the right direction - to get something done, to get over a fear, and so on. Good post OP x

Most sayings are borne of truth and often have deep meaningful sentiment. Then they are twisted to achieve some petty outcome, and leave a bad taste in your mouth. Life's too short is a great saying if you are consoling someone i.e. "Life's to short to worry about that stupid nob... you will find someone else". The same can be said of "seize the day". Misused, those two quote can run roughshod over a tremulous situation, but I still think that they can be used to good effect... I am waiting to dodge an errant handbag..... B

I never really fully understood or even appreciated what that meant til roughly 3 years ago. Up til then I thought life was some kind of cruel joke and was way too long LoL. If anything these days it reminds me to not waste time dwelling on circumstances beyond my control. I use it to determine who or what I can and can't live with or without. To a certain extent I use it as a means of justifying doing whatever I want to do simply because I refuse to die wondering.

There is a lot of sayings that confuse, or as intended take the focus off the real issue. At the end of the day it's what you will accept. Wait a minute ,, why do you have to wait till the end of the day to accept or reject? There is a plethora of inane sayings that generally are designed to take the focus away from the fact. Above all," life is too short" to dwell on idiocy.

An elderly lady heard me say to my friend "I wish i were older". She told me don't wish your life away, life is too short. It is only when you ARE older that you truly appreciate the meaning of 'life is too short'.

Its the context of how it is used. For me its used to remind me not too sweat the small stuff. I think it should be used in a personal sense rather than for giving advice to others.

Can I add to that "You only live once", "Get over it" and "In the grand scheme of things..."?

"Time heals all wounds". Bullshit, it's how you use that time. And some wounds never heal.

Because it reminds me I am only on borrowed time......so in my mind I can say....ohh what a bullshit some people just dont get it......get real , fuck off and leave me alone. Live your life as best you can...dont hurt people deliberately....leave me alone with your little piddly shit . My private life is fine I can get live how I like, but in my work life I have to shut my mouth....and the older I get the harder it is to do.Because some are just so anal and pitty, until death strikes or a sickness, then the light bulbs go on.

In reality... " life is too short " I have heaps of things I still want to do but sometimes behave like I'll be around forever. So when I say that' it give me a reminder to get up off my arse and make things happen.. dont forget' sticks and stones... its only words...

Indeed you do not look like a chicken wrap, but hell, you may have eaten a hot woman lately, and if so - then hell - you may be what you eat. I would just like to say that I have not in the past - nor do I intend in the future - to eat a middle aged man.

Quoting 'Jay_Me' ...something or some one to come along and bite them square on the arse before they realise their roller coaster life isn't just a rehearsal.. THEN.. They get to realise how true the ' life is too short ' saying is.? Not hard really.... Yes Jay ....sometimes life does creep up on us and Life's too short. I am saying that I have come across messages from people ...such as....hey lifes too short lets. F*&... Lifes too short why waste it deliberating. These people use the term not as a realisation that their life could slip away before they get to experience anything. They use it as an excuse to reckless behaviour....hey lifes too short why not binge drink. I dont think that the fact that life could be short is an excuse to do whatever. I knew someone who had the careless attidue with money as he would say you die tomorrow ------ which is true. Maybe I am wrong maybe it is something to embrace "Lifes too short" is it just a motto that anyone of any age is entitled too?

"Statistics show that birthdays are good for you, the more you have the longer you live." That's always made me smile. It's the sayings that people get wrong that make me chuckle. "And then he changed his mind and did a complete 360!""I wouldn't trust him with a barge pole" - yes I know someone who really said that. "A bird is better than a bush" Ok,now I'm giggling at my own post... oh dear. Quoting 'SuperFoxxxy' The word 'BUSY"... as in "I've been busy lately" Has to be the worst excuse under the sun!!!! Who the Fuck is that BUSY??? I mean if the United States of America can run a country and have time for his family - then he certainly ain't that BUSY!! FOXY *Places TWO bricks in hand bag* Oops - I've used that one. Someone pass me a hard hat?

Some good points you made there and now I know where you're coming from. I agree, some will use it as a excuse to be irresponsible without really caring what they say. Guess we were coming at this 2 different ways.. Personally ' I use it in a serious way because it reminds me not to be complacent. Cheers Jay..
