Monopoly

September 23 2013

I do enjoy a game of Monopoly and learning trivia about the game lol, I've even read a fun little book called, 'The Monopoly Book: Strategy and Tactics of the World's Most Popular Game', wish I could say that it's ever helped me win a game ;-D. A recent add based on 'the awkward moment when a woman doesn't choose the iron in Monopoly', always has me thinking that the only reason I ever chose the iron was because iit never fell over LOL! While I was having a look into 'The Story Behind Monopoly Pieces' today, I found out that the iron was discontinued earlier this year... in favour of a cat! Love it! I love ironies hehehe... My actual favourite pieces to play with were the 'Rocking Horse' (loved that it actually rocked lol) and the 'Horse & Rider' both of which have now been retired. . I wanted to ask what everyone's favourite piece/s are/were? What rules did/do you change? Got any trivia you'd care to share? Please

Isn't it funny how it was originally made to show how broken capitalism is. Like we need a board game for that :p

What a great topic! We have only just started playing monopoly again and not only has it been great family time is is also helping teach our six year old daughter maths. She plays the banker and has to work out all the change to give and what to do when you run out of $100 notes etc. it has really helped her maths as well as giving her an understanding that sometimes you just don't have enough money for everything you want to buy :) Regards to all from us!- Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'FatMexican26' Isn't it funny how it was originally made to show how broken capitalism is. Like we need a board game for that :p We don't need it now but the idea was the problem could be avoided if people would get the message early via a board game. Hindsight is always 20/20

I love Monopoly!I always choose the boot cos I can kick arse with it. One rule we changed/adapted was - paying all taxes/fees into the centre of the board. Whoever lands on Free Parking, collects the money. Problem with this was, the bank always ran out of cash

If you'd ever seen the spats I've had over the game in time, you wouldn't be thinking it was boring anymore...

Great Topic PeachyI used to play Monopoly when with my brothers and sisters when I was a kid.We all wanted to be the boot always an argument over it.I also liked the Hat.We used to take turns over being the banker.I'm sure when they were the banker, they would steal some money from the tray, cause they would always win with wads of money.I would not surprise me if Monopoly was the worlds most popular board game. (unsure if is)FOXY

And it degenerated into a deceitful game of sexual favors and dishonored vows... was awesome fun and made the game way less boring! As for favorite piece... always the hat.Our pieces had "bonuses" attached to them and "Pulling a rabbit out of the Hat" saved my arse (literally in one instance) a few times.

It went forever and I thought it the most boring game in history,,,,,, You weren't using the rule book I'll bet. I think I was in my 20's before I even realised we had been playing it all wrong the whole time. Every property is supposed to be auctioned if the player who lands on it refuses first option to buy it at the nominated price .... and no money lending from the bank or other players. The game is much faster when played this way ... still boring but faster nonetheless.

Alot of the monopoly games i've played have ended in domestics haha. Amazing how serious a little old board game can become ;). I always went the battleship, mosy people seemed to want the car so i let them argue over it. The one i've been playing of late uses key/debit cards and an efptos like machine. Much better than the handfulls of money i find. - Posted from rhpmobile

I'm loving the good feeling I'm getting from this thread, I'm glad it being enjoyed by everyone lol. . I do love my daughter Mado but he n me've found giving our grandchild toys and games with lots of parts ... like Monopoly... is a lot more annoying for her. :-D . Someone must be slipping your 5 year old money under the table Just ;-D Seriously, we have a 'Star Wars' version that no-one wants to play but the Pokemon version is way more popular lol. The deliberate rule changes in that version are fun! . Freya, why is it I'm picturing you with a feather duster? ;-) . LOLTulips, we put money in the middle too, never ran out of money though? Maybe cos the game didn't last long enough because someone would throw a tantrum (and it wasn't always me lol) and tip the board up! :-D . Foxy, I think Monopoly is the no' 1 selling game, I think they even print more money than some countries in a year! Monopoly is a monopoly unto itself. . Haha! Love it Amicus! That's part of what I love so much about Monopoly, it's design works with the times. That's pointed out by Coops with his eftpos like machine! I want my paper money Coops, you know freshly minted paper money smells real good. I really do miss my paper money... ;-D . Love it 50z, we've been watching the Dr Who series on Foxtel with Tom Baker as the Dr! (I had to ask the man 'bout which Dr LOL!) Is the scarf on offer as a piece? I love the scarf! . Is that writing size better for you HP??? 0:-D xxx

We played Monopoly so much that I fashioned a small Skull out of FIMO modelling clay, baked it hard in the oven (90oC for 25mins) and inserted two tiny diamante green eyes..And that was my piece.
