Robotics and Sex

August 12 2017

Hi All, Recently I read in the Sydney Morning Herald that a sex robot had been developed with identical anatomical features as a real woman...sad but true. Latex lined vagina etc etc thus rendering the trusty inflatable doll redundant for those with the financial means to afford one should they find interacting with a real lady too confronting or are in problematic relationships. Just wondering what people think and what the ramifications are for society should these robots become a popular adjunct to normal sexual relationship situations which people have or where they do not have normal sexual relationships?

Existing sex toys (for men also called masturbatory aids or strokers - correct me if wrong) are by many reviews realistic enough, but the difference in this case is it is attached to presumedly a full humanoid type robot, assumedly much better than a blow up doll! Somehow I don't think you would confuse a real person with a robot as far as giving and receiving affection is concerned. If you only want genital stimulation then there's already plenty for you. But then we can also go down the line of virtual reality sex (partners). Plenty of movies set in the future have already given many possible ideas. In any case you wouldn't have this new development in any category except an advanced sex toy. But we already know sex toys are used to fulfill certain needs, as the OP puts it, for those that do not have any sexual relationship, or perhaps can't or unlikely to ever have one. But just like sex toys of today do not replicate a real partner, they will always have limitations. - Posted from rhpmobile

they invent a brain to in it resembling a woman's brain, connected nerves etc., no matter how good the physical design, it could never be as good as the real thing, but no judgement. Whatever floats ya boat, not meaning the op, just a general comment 😃

There are men who may be socially shy or extremely introverted, who might be of mature age but still a virgin and scared to approach women, and these dolls will serve a purpose for them. I watched a doco about them and they were extremely lifelike. They can give you a hug and talk to you. There are guy dolls too. Im not going to make any judgement here because we are lucky and have had/are having sexual relationships. Many people havent/arent having sexual relationships. But I am curious.....if a guy can have a very lifelike doll who will give him a cuddle after sex and talk to him, without any relationship dramas, maybe more guys will have these dolls, after all, it would be the perfect NSA?

Quoting 'countrytouch' But we already know sex toys are used to fulfill certain needs, as the OP puts it, for those that do not have any sexual relationship, or perhaps can't or unlikely to ever have one. But just like sex toys of today do not replicate a real partner, they will always have limitations. I've read and watched a few pieces about the developments going on in robotic sex dolls, and about the users of sex dolls in general. There are already many men who have one or more sex dolls as their primary 'relationship', some are men who have never really had a relationship with a woman (due to various reasons), and some do actually have wives / partners but have basically relegated those partners to second place. It's particularly common in Japan but there are men all over the world who love and treat these dolls like they are a real human woman. Not just in regards to sex but to all areas you generally think of when you think of a relationship - e.g. cuddling, watching TV or reading books with them, dressing the dolls in clothing they (they as in the man obviously) like and taking it / her out socially (one guy who is married with a teenage daughter was dressing the doll in his daughter's clothes, which I found just a little creepy). One man referred to his favourite doll (he has a few) as his soul mate and said that if he could legally marry her, he would. From memory he does have some sort of written vow about their 'union' but obvs it's not legally recognised. For him, the idea of this doll being fitted with the appropriate robotics / AI to be able to move and talk to him, is a dream come true. He and other men really do see the dolls as being better than a real woman, for various reasons some of which are understandable, some a bit less so. The most advanced robotic dolls which will be in production soon will cost up to tens of thousands of dollars and there are already thousands of orders in for them. Once you start learning about all the details and things that go on behind the scenes you can see that although there are positives that can come from these dolls, there are some pretty ethically murky areas. Two brothers are trying to become the first to build the first fully AI-integrated doll (in their mother's garage), and one of them was talking about how these dolls would be a good thing because men who would normally go out and violently rape and / or beat women could instead take out their urges on the dolls. Gotta admit I cringed when he was talking about it. It's not something that can be stopped now and there will be continuing developments and advancements. It will be interesting to see some of the impacts and perhaps unexpected flow-on effects that occur (because there are always unintended effects when it comes to what we humans call 'advancement').

I can't help but wonder how mentally satisfying could it really be with a synthesised human replicant? Surely self esteem would be depressed by the fact you're resorting to sexual encounters with as close to a human as possible.... but... you're still not doing it with another person. But then... that comes from my mindset of not really finding it that difficult to find other humans to share sexual enjoyment with. I also wonder if the mindset around consent would be affected. A doll never has to say no.... but real people do, and if you do one thing often enough, it changes your perception and attitude. Time may well tell. DG - Posted from rhpmobile

If there's a market, there's a market. They won't fulfil ALL our needs but no one thing does. The fact is, based on a person's physicality, individuality, practicality, local or country demographics and many many other factors, not everyone on earth is going to find an appropriate human partner at all or for the duration wanted. Sex toys, sex robots, escorts, etc etc have markets for all their respective reasons. - Posted from rhpmobile

One of the magic things about enjoying a woman's body is the warmth and intimacy you share when you lay back enjoying afterglow together.. That's something a robot could never duplicate..

I am sure that many people will treat their robots with respect and use them as they are intended, but what about the weirdos who can treat their robots with contempt, abuse and violence with no consequence, when the day comes for that ultimate thrill, a real person. It can't end well.

different tools for different jobs. How advanced are we talking with these bots? it's been at least 25 years since they had warmed silicon-body dolls with video screen that plays and 'projects' onto the face, like a rear projection TV. I think these sorts of bots would have interesting ramifications in the sex industry. Would you hire a prostitute for sex, or a doll? Click the order online, a man in a van drops off Cherry 2000, have your fun and it gets picked up in the morning. The orifice sleeves could all be replaceable, give it a clean and it's over to the next punter. Brothels vs "Slot machine arcade" ;) fuckbots have upsides. Sex workers might be tested regularly, but you still have that window of uncertainty. For the people buying a doll and replacing a human, particularly while they're not indistinguishable from humans, I don't know that they're people who are all too well balanced and able to form human relations. The docos and articles I've seen so far showed people who were very socially isolated, the doll was like a teddy bear for grown ups.

Imagine the sheer unparalelled joy that could be had if you could hack into one of these sexbots, like via someone's wifi or something. The things you could make it do and say - like make it start doing the backstroke, all the whilst repeating over and over ''Thunderbirds are go!''. Or something. I think of things like that all the time. My mind is a turbulent place, but in a fun way.
