lily, we shag all the time, it's more about getting smashed and just fucking for hours with lots of toys and stuff, then later thinking..... "what ever the fuck we did it must have been good, just look at the place it's wrecked". So a shag is outside of the quickie, but more just having a good fuck that has you getting up to all sorts of naughty shit with an excuse. Mado Tara xx

Dear Lily, you're asking for trouble with this one. As you've explained in your own previous postings, it appears you're not too really sure about the difference as it stands, and everyone is going to have different definitions of the two. Hardly two people will agree on this subject, that much I can guarantee. A shag is not the same a just a ONS, but a ONS will usually be just a shag. To me, a shag is simply a very quick root with no mental connection - a scratch to an itch, if you like. A lover is someone who will spend time with you, and maybe develop to someone who shares a mental as well as physical relationship with you. Very, very simplified description - but I think illustrates the point. Tall

A lover is someone I love or have a very deep connection with in and out of the bedroom someone I have come to know over a long time, not a short term fling. Shags are everybody else. Even if you are friends with them. You are friends who shag.

Quoting 'Funlover71' Is sex, the rest is open for interpretation. Agree shag is just another word for sex, like root, bonk, fuck, etc. It has no bearing on how often or not you have sex. When someone says you are just a shag (just a fuck, just a root, it was only sex), that means you were just sex and nothing more to the other person, they are not interested developing a friendship beyond the sex.

It sounds like something from a bad romance novel... I only do shags (that sounds sweet like the bird) and they are ongoing, good friends and people I adore. A ons isn't a shag that's a ons. As a disclaimer this is my opinion and cannot be generalised to anyone else 😇 Xxviolet

I see so many posts that both men and women of the forum refer to anybody they have sex with as their lovers and potential lovers, although they do not seek emotional connection nor commitments. It seems open to interpretation, as Tall has suggested. Food for thought.

So here 'tis. A ons is exactly what others have said...a one night stand. A shag is a throwaway fuck, maybe one you visit a few times, consider it a road test to ensure it's got the goods. If they don't easy cum easy go, if they do then you may be lucky and it progresses to......A lover is a fucking awesome shag you've enjoyed repeatedly on multiple levels of kinky fuckery, intimately, deeply and with the intent to continually grind each other into sweaty, hot, uninhibited and unabashed oblivion beneath each other. Simple a gee fucks does not a lover make. Shoot me if I'm wrong it is just my opinion.....A lover develops over time and with intimacy. Does have a nicer " ring " to it for me too but purely based on my experience/ interpretation of people's use of the words shag root bonk fuck quickie .... Etc 😳 😌 But yes you can definitely "shag the socks off" your lover so it's the way it's used I guess.... Interpretation of a Word is all depending on the context it's used If you're listening to a song for instance id rather hear " lover " e.g. Imagine " torn between two shaggers .... "🎶🎵" as opposed to " torn between two lovers " he he 😂 yep I just sang it ....cracked me up ....😜...

I haven't had either for a while so I can't really help you with a definition! Although I have read some forum comments in the past where women refer to their "lovers". I'm just sitting here thinking, that sounds far too romantic! It's just somebody you are shagging!!

A lover is someone who I want to see in and out of the bedroom. Someone who gives me their all when we are together and who stays in contact when we're not. He is someone who I can talk to about everything and anything. He makes me want to share my body and my mind with him. When we are together it is explosive and I feel like he makes love to ALL of me. Having said that a good hard fuck doesn't go amiss either. A good shag is relatively easy to find. A great lover provides a deeper connection. Just my 2c worth. L4Q(Still chasing rainbows)

Most people appear to be one a similar same page with slight differences. I am in with inthekiss. To me shag simply means "fuck", and hence the shagging wagon (if it's rockin don't bother knockin etc). Means they are in there fucking; however, as our mothers (mine anyway) would be very upset if she heard me say "fuck", it therefore seemed like a bad word and shag sounded much nicer, or at least get away with. Hence, it could be a ons, friend, or long term relationship, even wife / husband. I have heard of people who spent all day or night "shagging", so not just a quickie. To me then "Shag" simply means "fuck", but did not sound so rude back in the old days.

Old fashioned because you use one word over another. I disagree. I think people use the word lover because it is more romantic. Maybe people use the term because they want to pretty up a situation which in reality is just a shag. But obviously I can be very crude at times, and I really enjoy it.

do we have to label it ? its someone your having sex with Maybe it will continue on for some time, maybe it will last for only one encounter It will be what it will be Does it really matter as long as you both enjoyed each other for the time allocated ? Sometimes we over think things.

Being abit of a romantic, I like to think ( in fact I know ). I always see myself as making love not shagging.. Recently , I was having a drink and heart to heart with a long time female friend who asked me if I ever thought we should have had sex .. Surprised'. I admitted the thought had pass my mind but because of circumstances that's where it stayed.. She admitted it was the same for her.. Surprising what a few drinks can do... Anyway, nothing happened, it's still just a thought... Because I respect her as a long time friend I find having a shag for the sake of it abit uncomfortable...

A quick shag or a fuck is something we could potentially go out and pick up any time. It takes time to get to know a lover in the deeper sense of the word (excuse the pun) Someone told me a few days ago that he would like to make love to me. I replied that it would not be making love but at this stage would be fucking aka shagging as we have not yet established that deeper connection. IMO you can fuck a lover but not make love to someone you JUST occaisonly fuck

Colloquially, shag has always represented the act of rooting, fucking etc. As single guy has pointed out, we have often adopted euphemistic terms to 'discuss' taboo topics. Today, it is ok to be crude ( Meeka xxoo ) and we often deploy dysphemistic terms. In the past you wouldn't be able to talk about your fuck buddies but you might about a 'lover' because it was more acceptable to describe the act of fucking, coitus, sex, being intimate. rooting etc. in that way. So as afar as I'm concerned, your shag can be a lover and vice versa. Mary xx

A shag is a term for sex purely on a physical level, with implications of selfishness... The term Lover implies a meaningful connection based on love - not selfish, and therefor more likely for both parties to be turned on by getting the other person off. This really brings up a question, how sacred is sex for you? It seems like lovers find the term shag off putting, and shaggers- well vice versa. Really, sex needs to be performed in all sorts of manners to keep it interesting! It is possible to shag your lover, might not work so well to love your shagger...

I think it is one of those words that it depends on where you were raised it may have a different meaning. I've had some (mainly English) friends who use it like an Aussie might use the word "root" or "screw"or "fuck". It is something that you do.... a verb. You may shag a lover a FB/BWB or a ONS. That's my take on it. Someone may be referred to a "shag"in the same way as someone is referred to as a "fuck" or "root". In that context I would suggest, for me, that there is not an emotional connection, but rather it is more a physical thing. A lover would indicate more of an emotional and intellectual connection with the person. The work "spunk"has different meaning depending on where you are from. As does "spoof" and "fanny".

From my perspective and experience.. Sometimes I am just feel like I want to Shag..It means I just feel like want to have wild, quick, crazy, unexpected, and spontaneous sex anywhere (outside, beach, work) and etc.. Lover is a person who I am meeting repeatedly and having wonderful, amazing, romantic time and romance... I believe that sometimes Lovers just Shag as well if they don't have much time to see each other... And Fantheflame is right.. You can Shag your lover, but you don't have to love your shagger.... Have a wonderful day everyone.. - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'looking4quality' ... IMO you can fuck a lover but not make love to someone you JUST occaisonly fuck That uis a good point too. I always thought that in the past (previous centuries had been more prudish than this one) a "lover" did not necessarily mean sex - just a relationship that was serious enough for the people to be considered "involved" by the society. It is in fact an expectation of society that people use certain terms in certain situations. I do not use "fuck" or "shag" except when alone with a person that I already have sex with... But I can speak about "having sex" or "making love" to my teenage kids without a problem. I too have some ingrained terms and their uses in my subconscious vocabulary... This was so well demonstrated in the recent Aus movie The litte Death - intimate partners (husbands and wives) could not openly talk about their fetishes because they simply did not have words.. Well, that's it, a different topic altogether :-)

I agree with Mado, or Tara, or both. I have never heard of "had too much sex back" , or "made passionate love too often back", I have only ever heard "shaggers back" (even though caused by the same thing). I therefore believe it is not a derogatory term, and can mean making love or having sex, or with ONS or wife / partner of 20-years. I believe it is just a non-rude (older fashioned) way of saying "fuck or sex" for those people who did not like their mouth's being washed out with soap.

Shagging someone and loving someone could very well be two different things and also the same thing... A shag could mean someone that was picked up taken back to hotel or apartment and done the deed A lover could be someone that you enjoy making love to there is a stigma of feeling on the lover idea... I think the shag one is a bit of a spur of the moment thing.... Dammit i wish i had a lover :(

G x Yes, indeed.Great sex is a mind meld, a glorious positive feedback loop. Random sex can be that, but more likely to be throw away sex- what some mean by a shag. I wouldnt ever demean great sex by calling it a shag, but thats just IMHO.
