The Big Snip

September 07 2019

So after 4 kids we have decided for me to get a vasectomy. My wife has booked me in for Tuesday. Hyfrecator is the type they said some people call it laser but it’s not apparently. The question I have is to guys that have had the snip has it made you less active in the hardon department? I’ve talked to a few mates that have had the snip and a lot have recommended not getting it as they said they don’t get horny like they did before they had it. Others have said that hardly any cum comes out since the op. Yet some say it’s the best thing they’ve ever done. Just curious on others experiences.

I've heard all the stories but mine was fairly straight forward. It pays to listen to the medics and take their advice, there's the tale of two brothers, one went home and put his feet up the other went on a fishing weekend, guess which one had the most time off work. Then there's the guy who couldn't wait until he got home and jumped his wife in the back of the car, apparently he really needed to know everything was in working order. It didn't affect my libido at all. You get a conversion from a working model to a sports model, and 3% less ejaculate is just not noticeable.Good luck and tell us how it pans out for you.

Mine was pretty straightforward. No real impact on sex drive, but they do hurt just a little bit during hard sex or if I haven’t had sex for more than about four days. Very sensitive if Mrs sucks on them too. Otherwise all good. No risk of any ‘little accidents’.

Mine was done with old fashioned scissors and fishing line 😂 There was a bit of post op pain for 2-3 days and I did have some intermittent aches over the next few months. Actually these were kind of pleasurable aches so not too bad. I’ve always had a high libido but Mrs S and I both feel if anything its increased my libido. I was naughty and we had sex a day or two after surgery which then made us both worry but that libido just wouldn’t be tamed! If you’re not having any more kids then man up and get it done or accept rubbers as you should be far more concerned with your wife taking hormones the rest of her life. Oh and I made my wife watch the op, she found it fascinating lol

I had absolutely no issues, didn't even need the pain killers the Doc prescribed, simply needed some frozen pea bagsand a few days of no sex. I was told to wait at least 7 days but that didn't quite happen, simply be a bit more carefuland don't go too hard for the first few months. After about 6 months I kind of forgot that I had the snip, that's how well it all healed. The procedure didn't impact my sex drive at all. The colour, smell, taste and amount of ejaculations didn't change. Before I had the vasectomy done I spent a lot of time reading about it and the consensus seemed to be that men who had problems with it were most likely affected by psychological issues (i.e. not being a "proper" man anymore) although nerve damage can and has happened. Be 100% sure that a vasectomy is what you want, only doing it to keep the wife happy was the number one regret men seemed to have after getting it done.

My advice is definitely don’t do it I had it done after my fourth child was born and it was one of the biggest mistakes of my life I was a very heavy cummer before I had it done I would of given Peter North a run for his money Iimmediately after it was done it’s like the tap got turned off and it remains like that to this day even though another GP told me it shouldn’t have made a difference well it did !!! And yes it’s affected me in the ways your mates have described I actually tried to contact the doctor that did it but his since retired but I’m looking to get the procedure reversed just stick to the withdrawal method in my opinion it’s simply not worth the risk.

Made no difference to my libido, or erection, or taste. I would recommend talking it easy afterwards and following the doctor's advice. I had minimal post op pain and got back on with life, ended up with a swollen blue scrotum.

I have to plug for Dr Snip in Melbourne. These days it is keyhole surgery, walk in, walk out, was issued standard painkillers but didn't need them. Two dot scars didn't last long. No differences post op, in any area ;) Complications and side effects do exist but are rare, like with any body operation. There's differences between the actual operation methods used. Best to research your options and travel if desired to a more preferred doctor if there's not so much near you by way of specialists. Cost here was about $800 with some rebated.

I understand the mind can play tricks on us and we can overthink anything and make it into an issue but for me, my wife took the pill so we could enjoy a latex free sex life. That little pill has so much more biochemical effects on women causing physical and mental changes. So to expect her to do this for life so I can enjoy a better sensation is pretty darn selfish I think. If you know within yourself you have had enough kids then it’s the fairest decision of all unless you don’t mind condoms as if used correctly they are effective. I guess it might be hard if it’s a demand from your partner but at this stage of your relationship I would hope it would be something you sit down and talk about without ultimatums. My wife hated the pill and hates condoms but didn’t force the issue. We discussed the options, I took my time to process then we booked the procedure a few months in advance with the knowledge I could change my mind. We then went together and shared the experience just like we did with childbirth (waaaaay more traumatic mentally and physically for a woman). It was just another part of our life together and now is such a non issue that I don’t think about it unless it comes up in a conversation like this. As an aside, I went to a general GP who basically only does these and was cheaper than a dinner at a restaurant. The clinics charge a premium but still not too expensive so go where you feel most comfortable. The guy that did mine was quite funny and recommended we choose a song to play, I chose “Another one bites the dust” :)

I was one of the rare cases that had post-op pain, but that was my body treating the soluble stitches as an infection, so it took me two weeks to be able to walk upright again. For the first week it would take me a half hour to crawl from the lounge to the toilet. Even after that and even if I had of know what I was in for, I still would have done it and the risk of complications is in the fractions of a percent, so do not let that put you off. Even the complication added into the mix, it definitely had no effect on libido or hardness or any other negative issues regarding sex drive, although it was probably a month before all tenderness subsided. If anything it made things better as there were no longer worries about accidents and if your partner is one of those who doesn’t respond well to the pill, she can stop taking it. Strangely before the op, I couldn’t stand my balls being played with; it just felt uncomfortable. After the op, it feels good now so I suppose that was an added bonus. But definitely no negative effects at all for me. I agree with servant too, I think a lot of those who say they had issues were probably more psychological in nature or regrets as it probably wasn’t entirely their decision. So just make sure that if you do it, you do it for you and that you are ready. One more apparent benefit (and maybe others can verify of deny it). Jen did not know me before my snip, so it is not an exact before/after comparison, But she tells me that there is a different taste in cum from a guy who has been snipped and one who hasn’t. Apparently it is more pleasant and doesn’t have a strong smell.

Ssexplorer saved me writing out three quarters of my post. Absolutely spot on, it's about more than the guys in a relationship. The pill can have all sorts of nasty side effects that we can't start to fathom. As countrytouch mentioned, there's always some risk with any procedure. Physiologically you'd think there shouldn't be much of a change and I'd be guessing "most" of the stories you hear aren't backed up by medical evidence. The mind plays interesting tricks some times! Although I'm sure there's the odd anomaly. I had mine done under a general because of scar tissue from an op as a kid. I was black and blue for a fortnight ! Walking around wasn't fun for a week, but i knew going in it was a risk. A few weeks later couldn't tell the difference. Zero changes to sex drive, quantity, taste.... if you poke around in the right spot you can feel where the snip was made, but I might just be special with that one😊

A quick and easy procedure Mr D had the snip 12 years ago. Drove himself to the clinic & back. Very little pain and everything was back to normal the following day. No negative side effects . No erectile dysfunction and the same amount of ejaculate. A vasectomy does not noticeably affect the volume or consistency of the ejaculate, as this is manufactured in the prostate gland. All that is missing are the actual sperm cells, which are made in the testes. Some may develop an enlarged epididymus or epididymal “cysts” as a result of a vasectomy, months or years later.

Hubby had his 10 years ago. Best thing he ever did. A few days of swelling bruising and pain... no meds needed just peas. Nil negative effects and like he says its the least he can do after watching me battle through pregnancies and births. And I have to agree, it is the least you fellas can do for your wives when they've had enough kids snd contraception can be so chaotic on ur system.

No issues no problems, was walk in walk out, hasn’t affected anything, anyway. Been sporting it for a decade now so it’s had a good run and I’m very happy.

Do yourself a favour and find a Doc who does a lot of vasectomies, it might cost more at a larger clinic or you mighthave to travel further but my belief is that practice makes perfect and a GP who does them every now and then mightnot be the best person to do surgery on such delicate tissue.

I had my vasectomy at 29. After 3 kids I was done... No post op pain, no erectile dysfunction or changes in quantity.... It’s less invasive surgery for us blokes to have than our female counterparts tube tying. I think if you’re going to feel as though you’re manhood is going to be different somehow, then it’s probably not for you at this point. So many guys that I spoke to post op said stupid shit like “I couldn’t do that as I want all my stuff left intact...” or “I ain’t no dog to be put out to retirement...the missus can just go on the pill!!” I feel for them as they’ve clearly invested far too much emotion into a very small piece of tube....

Coming up 20 years since I had mine (and a year since my last visit to rhp!), and no regrets. It was simple, straightforward, and caused no change to libido or function. Damn sight less invasive than tubal ligation and negates any need to mess around with a partner's hormones, too. Win all round!

So I had it done the other day. It hurt like hell when I got the local but I’m a baby when needles are involved. Only a slight bit of discomfort during the procedure. Was told by the doctor to rest up for 1-2 weeks but being a typical person that works for themself I was back at work the next day but did take it a little easier. No dramas or pain so far 6 days later. Can’t comment about anything else so far. Thanks for all the feedback from my initial question
