Unisex Toilets

January 04 2016

We went to a bar on the weekend, which had a unisex toilets ie a couple of urnials and then a number of toilets. Little bit weird as in different but ok. What are others thoughts, ok with it or is It just weird. It made us remember a small gym we went to that unisex changeroom, that was very strange ie a couple of shoers and a few lockers, it was not big so not a huge issue and most people just used it as a locker rather than a change room. Do you agree with us that is a little strange. Has anybody else experienced either.

At Attunga before it was renovated . It's always a bit of a security risk if a woman goes in alone. Thankfully when they renovated , they gave the woman a separate toilet. - Posted from rhpmobile

cos today it is unfair..the number of urinals etc for women is equal (or less) than what men have ...so you go to an event (e.g a concert or a play at a theatre) and you see the long lines of ladies waiting and waiting and waiting...when there are hardly ever queues for the men's. It is biology... There should be more for ladies. Or ladies should be allowed to use the unisex ones. In fact, I did a "rebellious act" and used the men's toilet just last week.... I have to add that the other ladies in the queue were looking at me as if I were a freak, but very kindly told the men who were planning to do their business in their designated rest room to wait a few minutes until "the lady finishes" and the men (2 middle aged ones) very politely did wait outside of the door. It was very gentleman like behaviour of them to wait...mind you it was in the countryside in NZ...

SYDnobaribie is spot on. As a man thinking on behalf of my wife, I think there needs to be more unisex toilets especially when men have their urinals exclusive in most toilets anyway. So ladies must have the option of using the toilets that are free.

Make stalls unisex, and also have urinals. I don't care if the urinals were unisex, but urinals can be packed quite densely and maintain a high service rate. I don't know if a unisex urinal design maintains the same density of urinals. I've never encountered men that cared about women running into the men's toilets at a club or anywhere. Everyone has a giggle and nobody cares - except the girls outside, some of them carry on a treat about it. Nobody is walking around the room waggling their dicks in the air. My only concern about women 'invading' the men's toilets is cleanliness, I've seen the insides of some women's toilets and they're disgusting, it's like they're animals spraying urine to mark their territory :p

A toilet is a toilet. Especially if you have any kind of bowel problems and need to go right then and there. - Posted from rhpmobile

How did you end up visiting the insides of some women's toilets. Lol!!

The first time I walked into a toilet in a bar in Bankok and saw a "lady" standing at the urinal threw me a bit but you soon get used to it.

and have seen a woman use the one of the unoccupied stalls in the men's. There was also high pressure on the urinals with a couple of men waiting and she marched in full of confidence, said excuse me I'm using a toilet, and with out a sideways look went in and did her business and quietly left. There was a couple of mumbles from a couple of guys but basically no fuss, no drama. I have seen this happen more than once. So, women, if you're held up by a long queue, you just need the balls to...........

Women used the stand up female urinals? They were bring considered to save space and therefore get the queue under control. Think they were providing disposable funnel type thingos. Anyone?

Anyone? the problem with those disposable funnel things is that we ladies would have to carry it in our bag or purse...then there are the men complaining that the women always have a massive bag with a lot of stuff with them....well...hellooooooo :) :) I do a fair amount of camping and adventure travel and that little device would be very handy on long drives in the outback or bush camping or in other remote places...but then one has to carry that too..it is just complicated..

Quoting 'Summer_solstice' I'm actually all for men putting the seat up, then women putting it down. Only sounds fair? An actual complaint about some women I would have is them not disposing of their sanitary products properly. I have a houseful of boys/men, by golly, even my dog is male! So I am used to having the toilet seat up or down depending on their business. Not sweating the small stuff. I am just happy that my boys do know to keep the toilets clean and if necessary, they do clean the toilets as a courtesy to the next person coming in.

There are a lot of bars in Melbourne, specially the funky bars, that are taking on the trend of Unisex toilets. My ex-bf came to melb recently from Birmingham, UK and we went to a bar in Melb. He went to the toilet and came back in 5 secs. Me: "That was quick'. Him: "I don't think they have a male toilet here. I can't find the urinals!' I had to explain it to him that it was unisex. Vive le toilette!

As long as they are clean. In Norway, they have boxes of moist toilet cleaning tissues on the walls for people to use when they finish. Ive used the guys toilets before when theres been a long queue at the ladies, I get a male friend to come in with me and act as sentry. If you gotta go, you gotta go!

Guilty of a big bag. But what of my companions who have small bags or no bags in the case of those males. "Have you got room in your bag for my ......." Lucky i dont need the funnel thing though. Happy to stand or sit. Male or female toilet depending on the urgency. Every dunny is a unisex one.....

Quoting 'Whateverway' Every dunny is a unisex one..... agreed :) all dunnies are created equal...so what is the point of branding them as "male" or "female" Men's dedicated urinals are doubling the capacity in the men's room - something that we women haven't got - it is unfair.. so let's be equal. IF there is a SUBSTANTIAL queue for the ladies and the men's is empty - go for the men's my fellow ladies. There is no shame about it... There was one thing I was curious about - is there a "parent-child friendly toilet" in the men's room as well? You know the one where there is a adult sized toilet bowl and a child sized toilet bowl. A lot of ladies' rest rooms -especially in malls- have a stall like that...taking up an extra stall place ...and i wondered whether they have the same in the men's room as well? What if a single Dad is with his daughter under 10 who needs a child sized bowl? Can they walk in and use the "child friendly" one in the ladies?

I've never seen child facilities in a male toilet, why would they encourage us perverts and pedophiles ? I think it goes by the usual assumption that all parenting of that nature is done by the mother. When my kids were in nappies until old enough to go on their own I would use the "family" room in supermarkets and shopping centres and got abused more times than I can count.

Kids use normal sized loos at home, so its not too much of an issue to find a kiddie sized toilet anyway. Although kindy, prep and daycares have the small version ( easier to fit more loos in a small space then) if dads havent got access to a parents room, they generally use a disabled, which I think is fine if you take your child to the toilet

I don't know about sit down toilets but there are a couple of small urinals in a few places I have been which I presume are for boys. I have seen men use the male toilet as a change room as I have seen dads take their daughters to the men's. We have a couple of unisex toilets in public space here and I have heard some rather shitty stories from some female friends but out in a public space apposed to a night club or pub is quite different in my opinion. And I do feel for the ladies after seeing some ridiculous line ups to use the women's.

Quoting 'Summer_solstice' Quoting '50wetfigs'I've never seen child facilities in a male toilet, why would they encourage us perverts and pedophiles ? And that's a problem for many single dads! Just read an article on Fb yesterday about a man who petitioned a US store (Macy's) to have a change table put in the men's room. And they did! good on Macy's - they are doing the right thing. I find it outrageous that society assumes all men are perverts and pedophiles.. if there is a child-friendly cubicle in the ladies' restroom to accommodate Mums with their kids then there should be one in the Men's too to accommodate Dads to do the same.. or allow Dads in the ladies room and don't frown on them.. or just make all unisex :)

I have seen a Family restroom where they put up a banner staying "Dads are welcomed" I reckon it was done to make it clear to Dads and Mums that Dads have just as much right to use the Family restroom as Mothers.. Good on establishments who do this - Dads should have the same rights as Mums....

wow..dont know where the sense of entitlement on the females comes from in the attitude that they can just stroll into the mens dunnies and expect everyone in there to either wait outside or just put up with it and be ok with it. Just because their line is too long? Personally I wouldnt care...if its unisex then obviously it is what it is. Even if its seperated i wouldnt care myself but im sure theres some who might. Otherwise not sure what makes females think they can just enter an area where men have their junk hanging out. - Posted from rhpmobile

which is just a big shopping centre really.... They have parent rooms...they're unisex, have a microwave, a couch type seat(for feeding mothers to utilise if they choose to), change table and a toilet cubicle.... And it's been there since they built it many many moons ago :) - Posted from rhpmobile
