Should change rooms at gyms and pools be unisex or not - Posted from rhpmobile

We say NO, because by having men & women changing together, is only going to lead to problems. Unfortunately some people do not behave appropriately and we can just imagine the law suits that would follow. The same applies to public toilets, which we recall was thoroughly discussed previously, somewhere on the forums.

DC is right unfortunately because I, for one, couldn't be trusted OMFGawd 😜 how great would that be? I'd be hitting on everyone, flirting nude, I'm bad enough at the beach. I had to leave yesterday, I get too horny, can't stand it lol have to remove myself from public 😎😊

the change rooms at most Anytime gyms are unisex. I don't care, I play on mixed teams and we just get changed - from our regular non-mixed teams we're pretty much all in the habit of stripping and changing. We might just turn around instead of giving a full frontal. But that's a special case, men and women just aren't generally comfortable stripping off at all, let alone in front of the opposite sex, most people are hesitant even about getting changed in a room with others there. At a regular gym, I don't see it happening without just making it all individual stalls, and there isn't the room for that to happen and deal with the volume of people. Public toilets make no sense for them to not be unisex with segregated urinals, and shared hand washing, that would be the most efficient.

...for single sex change rooms. Pervs, prudes, and preserving mutual respect. That said, some get offended in single sex change rooms when they are "forced" to look at a nude body they find ugly. Yes, I've heard that more than once. I often change on the sidelines after a game- but only strip to my compression shorts/ Skins. No complaints- yet. - Posted from rhpmobile

I like my privacy and I've seen the picture the Victoria's Secret model put out of the woman getting changed... I wouldn't want the worry of having my photo taken. Peachy

I would like to say yes. But at a pool probally going to have bad things happen. That saying the gym I go to is unisex only because there is only space for 1 I wish for an ideal world - Posted from rhpmobile

I've been in loads of unisex change rooms. They're not big open rooms with everyone nude though. Loads of cubicles to change in. Makes sense for families. - Posted from rhpmobile

Anytime Fitness here has unisex bathrooms and change rooms, but they're not laid out with a few cubicles in one room. They're single lockable rooms, so it's not like you're going to be in a private closed in area with a stranger. I'm comfortable with that. Several cubicles in a room which is unisex isn't something I'm comfortable with. I prefer that kind of layout to be one for men and another separate one for women. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

Peachy That was a woman taking a photo of a woman, not sure how that example is an argument against unisex change rooms.

even a "Not-so-perfect" world, this would work...I would love to see at work, and believe it would in fact help/allow society to normalize gender equality. The problem is.. there are men, and women, who have a very real mental sickness, and they cannot be trusted. And they would fuck it up.The problem with this sickness, is that the person does NOT recognise it as a problem. They genuinely believe it is acceptable behaviour, or worse.. just a problem, or weakness of character that OTHER people, or other genders have..Just saying.. in my Palaeolithic manner....

You're right about that being a photo of a woman taken by a woman Luck. I was approaching from the idea that anyone can take a photo if they're allowed in the change room. In that case, a woman, but if unisex becomes a regular thing that could just as well be a man. Peachy

as with others here, it would be great, but it wouldnt work. For toilets though, I think they should all be unisex. I dont understand at events, when the women have a huge lineup to get to the toilet and the guys just walk right in. Ive said to ladies "just use the mens, noone cares" and always get a funny look.

I'm not sure how using I touch who is a woman, unless you're having a joke as I took her to be, has anything to do with a unisex bathroom the same as my example really wasn't. Peachy

But.... in Itouch's OWN words..SHE cannot be trusted either....but, YOU are ok with that?I went to a HUGE function in Sydney a few years ago, where the girls were literally PUSHING in to us the MALES toilets, and THAT was ok.. but when males tried to use the female toilets.. the bouncers manhandled them and threw them out.. I got arrested that night for sticking up for a poor gay fella who was copping it hard from a bouncer for TRYING to have a pee in the girls toilet too...I THOUGHT you wouldn't be so quick to judge genders alone. Disappointed now....

I was going to say some similar to Summer TBH. It's not just guys who are 'perves' or would take photos. A unisex bathroom should be safe for both women AND men. A woman behaving in an inappropriate manner is just as bad as a man. Either by trying to attract attention, glaring, making comments or physical contact. As you said a woman took a photo of a woman. A woman could also take a photo of a man - just as inappropriate. But you did clarify that. And agree in a ideal world being naked would be normal and no big deal. But the world is full of twats.

Disappointed now.... I get your point. I won't change itYou may find it interesting to google the percentage of male sex offenders v female sex offenders. How many male sex offenders wear location bracelets v female sex offendersHow many ...........fuck l could go on.Maybe I'm sexist. There are bad on both genders of course. But history/percentages are against males. Therefore unisex change rooms will not make the female gender feel safe. Be disappointed. Very disappointed. Be disappointed for the small number of men that prey on the innocent and cause harm to so many lives. We deserve better in society so be disappointed for that

Girls who use males toilets in that situation are accepting any risk of doing so. Guy using female toilets, whole different scenario and security has to enforce no male policy as a duty of care for the reasons I posted above.

Guy using female toilets, whole different scenario and security has to enforce no male policy as a duty of care for the reasons I posted above. I don't know that "duty of care" applies purely in respect to male/female segregation in toilets. IMO I think it could also fall foul of gender discrimination laws - particularly your example of treating genders differently in this instance. I don't think there has been any definitive case law in Australia, there is speculation you could be done for causing a public disturbance if the people in there really kicked up a stink (no pun intended), but I don't think that would stick either. That doesn't mean a bounce couldn't be stationed only in the women's and tell men to fuck off... but I don't think they could actually do anything (a little like the bag checks at JB HiFi, they can ask, but they can't enforce it) IMO there is more potential for a woman to be charged by going into a men's toilet, since depending upon the urinal design it could arguably be indecent exposure... though I can only think of a urinal designed like Hellfire's, and I've never seen a mirror polished trough :p

Quoting 'temp_territorian' I've been in loads of unisex change rooms. They're not big open rooms with everyone nude though. Loads of cubicles to change in. Makes sense for families. It's good to see someone's experience. I don't see why it couldn't work in a well managed situation. I can't imagine myself squeezing in and out of clothes (which I loathe doing) in public, but having a private cubicle is fine. I know my husband popped in and out of the changing room area when I was trying clothes on in a woman's clothing store recently. He didn't bother any of the women and if anything they had a good giggle experiencing our family cos our daughter was there as well... running clothes in to and out of the change rooms for me. So, I've had a change of heart considering it doesn't need to be a unisex change room for people to act inappropriately. Thanks for the correction on the Playboy model G_m_p. :-) I was in a rush and didn't double check when I posted. :-) Peachy

I did do a bit of googling as I love to do and found the AFL's Guidelines for upgrading to unisex use from mid 2015. So unisex is not so new in Aus. A lot of the comments I found on blogs and such seemed to approach from the same area as me with my experiences of the change rooms I experienced as a child with no pretension to privacy whatsoever. Funny because I was comfortable enough to go around naked at Delta's when it was around. It's all about having choices I imagine. Peachy
