Totally depends on who's talking to whom don't you think? When I say it, I might mean Sara Lee's rich, smooth and creamy Vanilla, but when you say it, you might be talking about Paul's boring, weak Vanilla, which is not nearly as good if you ask me, even though it's supposedly the same thing. Then there's the old hokey-pokey, which is also basically just Vanilla, with a few rough bits added in for flavour, but whoaaa...that stuff can GREAT if the mix is right.

I was wondering the same thing following a coffee with a lovely lady over coffee ;) I have been described by some as vanilla and by others as adventurous. Does that mean I sit somewhere in between? Is kinky or vanilla just defined by the expectations or sexual views of the person you are seeing or is there An objective was to define those boundaries?

I think it does depend on the opinion of each individual. All my life I have just.....you know....done things...in the bedroom department and thought it was normal, natural and everyone did them. Since joining RHP I find (and get told) that no...it is not vanilla sex at all and a lot of women wont do what I do automatically. On the other hand, I have a female friend who is way more adventurous than I. It is normal for her.

Vanilla sex is basically procreation 101 stuff. I think of it as the softer side of sex too though...the cuddling & romantic bonk where you gaze into each others eyes. No bondage, spanking or slapping. No rough stuff. Licking & using hands still in there but just normal foreplay. The kind of sex you had as a teenager with other teenagers. lol Would licking toes and body parts be a kink? i mean yes it is...there is no known reason why having someone suckle your toes or neck should make you wet...but it does! for me, it's loosely about from where the pleasure is derived. "vanilla" means physical pleasure (stroking, licking, pounding - though delicious, it's all physical), while "kink" plays with the mental side of things (fetishes, role playing, etc). i'm sure there's acts that mess with those boundaries, but take pain play, for example: although it seems physical, it's really the mental stuff going on with it that is the turn-on. a blowjob would turn up in most vanilla sex, i'd say - but when a sub is performing it on her Dom, it takes on mental significance (submission), so it becomes kinky rather than vanilla. my two cents.

Apparently De Sade 's ultimate philosophy was 'the freedom to violate & destroy' So even though it was named after him...he would have been disgusted with modern day S&D. He wanted victims not partners. S&D is about a consensual giving up of control. Ive only read one of his novels and that was years ago so cant really remember it that well, but he was about degredation. He advocates a kind of sexuality that runs counter to the desires of other people. They are to be victims and are denied any rights at all...that is the key to his system. Books by authors like him, Sacher-Masoch, Pauline Reage & Anne Rice are typically misconstrued as models for real relationships. Which was interesting because I liked the Anne Rice erotica because it had feeling & affection in the sex...Of course setting up a castle with love slaves probably isnt really realistic ( even though the bridle path would be oh so fun!) Well this is quite simple Luxemburg. To have vanilla sex is to have sex with a white person. They can be a dwarf. Tall. Round. Skinny. But they must be of pale complextion. I'd also accept a member of Milli Vanilli. Or Vanilla Ice. Points off however for anything to do with Vanilla Sky. Kinky sex of course.. aka 'kinked' sex refers to the art of sex with bent limbs. The tighter the angle of legs to torso... the kinkier it is. And should one party remain unkinked.. they become the kinkee. Is anything really considered truly kinky these days? I agree that vanilla depends on the person - what I think of as normal - can't do without - others may find kinky. I think that sex is so openly discussed these days and so readily available on the internet,etc - all sorts of sex and kinks so what we considered kinky 10 years ago has now become vanilla. We are becoming more desensitized to kink. Is this good or bad? Definition of kinky = perverted practices. So for me that is sex with animals or children, or hurting or forcing people against their will. Or scat. Everything else is just a form of sex. Some things turn you on and others don't. But it is all good. Or am I just an innocent girl with no idea of what is really out there? Maybe...

Again, a bit of a smile at the thought...a flavour as a quantum of definition? Can I play too? You can go to almost any corner supermarket and pick up vanilla flavouring...wonderful, an artificial extract of something that seems to taste the same. Pure vanilla, carefully aged by the infusion of bean and extract carefully...is an exotic flavour unto itself. I suppose some thing are an acquired taste...how you choose to delight the palate is a matter of choice.
