What makes you cry?

November 07 2015

I don't mean necessarily what makes you sad,but what is a surefire way to the catch in the throat and the tears flowing?Sad movies, great sex, award nights,Stevie the Prince of Penzance strapper, they are all things that recently brought a tear to my eye and a catch in my throat. It seems to be much more acceptable for men to cry now, which is a good thing xxFreya

Anything sad or even over the top cute that has to do with babies and little kid's. As a mum it's natural, it can be tears of sadness or happiness. Also dolphins .... I can't hold the tears back whether in movies or real life, which I occasionally get to view here where I live, have such a love for them.

Beaches the movie, I could start out happy as, but be a sobbing mess by the end of this movie, the music, and Bette Midler, who I'm a huge fan of, she's incredible not just as a singer, but as an actor as well, stock up on tissues for that one. Another favourite movie of mine is 'When Stella got her groove back' cougar with hot young thang, so no wonder it appealed, but Bette Midler's character dies in that movie and again, there's something about her, she's so real the way she acts, that reduces me to a sobbing mess. When my beloved dog got run over when I was young at high speed on a country road, face split open vertically, leg crushed, ultimately had to be taken off, which killed me, actually that's the last time I cried like that, and children being seriously ill, that kind of thing obviously. On a day to day basis now, I don't cry over spilt milk, so to speak, with the one exception

should have cried tonight after a no show, nah not even close, his loss, long term fuck buddy so was a surprise though. Bought a bag of m&m's to eat off him, still ate them along with a heap of other junk food in the absence of a dick in my mouth, not as much fun on my own eating the m&m's but damn, the crunchy ones in the blue packet are so good

Real Life tragedy will bring a tear to my eye...whether it's portrayed in a movie or, to a lesser extent, a book. When I'm aware that a tragic story is based on true events it moves something in me to appreciate the hardships that some humans endure because they must.Sometimes when I empathise I'm not in complete control...and that's not an unpleasant experience to be briefly out of control.

People overcoming adversity, animals who were rescued at the last minute, those kinds of things. I cried when I read that the dying Star Wars fan was granted his wish to see a pre-screening of the new movie last week, as he will likely not live to see the premiere in December. (I'm tearing up again just writing that!)

as it doesn't fit with my macho image. But as I get older I seem to have become more sentimental and romantic and find myself tearing up during romantic moments in movies or at personal news stories that are poignant. Before I completely destroy my tough guy image completely I need to point out that these happenings haven't yet turned into full on tears.

Whenever I see/witness a scene, either in a movie or in real life, where people are losing their family members or loved ones to death because of illness, disease, cancer or accident, etc. I just can't help myself but shedding tears like as if I was part of it. I still remember I cried like anything the first time I watched the movie "Deep Impact" where parents sacrificed their lives to save their children. I was still in my early or mid 20s back then and thought Mother Nature was cruel, hence I cried so badly 😛 However, not only sadness that will make me cry easily. Happy reunion of long lost families or friends; someone gives an emotional speech about their life experiences; etc. can also turn on my crying tap and run my happy and touching tears for them. - Posted from rhpmobile

The news and what people are capable of breaks my heart constantly. Seeing the recent hairdresser story where he is down on the floor as he cut the autistic boy's hair because that's where the boy was most comfortable. It broke my heart to think that kindness is something rare and precious. And the dog that was a house pet, sitting as he was gunned down by police. Your house mate, taking things of no monetary value to her. I can't help but wonder where was she coming from? I often cry a tear when I notice people have left the forum. I'm a big sook. Peachy

Moments of bittersweet beauty. When my daughter looked at a photo of herself all dressed up for a night out and said "wow, I'm pretty!" When someone who I dislike personally but admire professionally took the time to publicly acknowledge that she thought the work I was doing makes a profound difference. Phrases of exquisite beauty that catch me off guard in a book. And, when Andy hands Woody over to Molly, then drives off? Turns me into a blubbering mess every time. - Posted from rhpmobile

As a young man I would have been the usual mans man but watching my first child being born changed all that, I was allowed to catch her and cut the chord, it was like a veil had been lifted, the world became a very different place, I had to care and I was no longer the only thing that mattered and the future was a much bigger place than next pay day. At first the emotional deluge was actually very difficult to handle, one particular news story involving infants and mothers had me sobbing in the emergency lane for an hour and affects me to this day. Sometimes I'd really like to turn it off.

Lest we forget "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them." From Laurence Binyon's poem For the Fallen, written in September 1914 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields." John McCrae, May 1915 - Posted from rhpmobile

Tears of...happiness?...flowed the first times I watched Invictus( my favourite movie for now ) and Schindlers List, amongst others.

The Ghost and Mrs Muir (1947 version with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison) makes me cry every time I watch it. The next movie to make me well up, is 'Immortal Beloved' (features Gary Oldman). The combination of the story and music, sets something off inside me. The last book that made me cry, Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. (That actually changed my perspective on how we view ourselves and others as a society.) Basically, you'll never actually know someone as they see themselves or what they experience. You only ever know a person from the way you see them act, and you judge based on your own standards, values and moral compass. (You'll never know the real story I guess, except for the bits you're allowed to see.)

Had me crying a lot. Actually a lot of emotions were extreme over the yr or so. Didnt see it until I was past it. Would be laughing about something, then crying. Then laughing because I had cried. Im generally a private crier. Was brought up that that way. If we cried we were told to stop and not be so silly etc. The one emotion you should never let people see. And that does stay with you as an adult. But I cry for others more than myself anyway. I work with kids and thankfully these days we dont tell them to stop crying or that they shouldnt cry about something that effects them. We acknowledge their sadness or grief and let them feel. So much healthier for the soul.

What makes me cry is the looooong wait to see a muslim peace march. Whitey can march every year for the moral good. Remember that poor irish woman who was rape and murdered in Sydney???......there is a yearly march in her memory.......yet the muslims could march every week to show their moral fortitude against the atrocities committed week in week out.........but they don't. They wait for whitey to march and then join in on our coat tails. If I see another "ride with me", I'm going to fucking scream because they don't deserve it......

A beautiful question... such a simple thing, yet quite profound in that each person to respond has taken quite a brave leap, and bared a part of the soul that is rarely seen. The answers say a lot about the person. I cry when I see others in distress, or emotional pain. I'll never forget the woman who I only caught a passing glimpse of as her car passed mine in the opposite direction. She was sobbing uncontrollably... with the kind of intensity that can only be a result of sheer heartbreak. It still makes me sad to think of this stranger in that much pain. I cry when I see animals being mistreated. Then I quickly get angry at the aggressors... but that's another story. :) I cry when I witness someone achieving greatness.... or realising a dream. Olympians at the pinnacle of their careers, winning out against the worlds best because of sheer determination and years of sacrifice to train in their chosen field, for that one moment. Oh.... I cry when I reach for the awesome bottle of red I've been enjoying and realise it's empty :) Damn.... I do a lot of crying!!

Caught in the glare of my headlights, a disheveled, clearly frightened looking little maltese terrier rushes head long into the roadside ditch, as I pass I see a branch or something caught in its coat. I am at least 50 km from the nearest household. Poor little thing, I stop and go back (cursing myself as I am about to adopt a stupid little lap dog) I search and search, but it's gone. I cry for all the frightened hungry lonely things abandoned/lost helpless and sad, I cry now. The next day on my way home I stopped and left a large bowl of water, an open bag of dried dog food (protected from the ants) and some tears by the roadside for that sad lost stupid little lap dog. I do hope its tail wagged a little at least once more. I hate it when the world makes me cry. :(

Bad fools who have been outcast from the inside out may not emotion , but in Kinetic terms we could fuel our future if we could harness it . If the life watch stoips and old has been a given with some lifestyle for peace , than good on that cant upset the wheels of a norm . But beong killed in any other way then old or a incurable illnes that a crying game . Again being killed is not good but happens .

Both very strong characters that I could associate with in many ways, and despite seeing these I don't know how many times I tear up.
