I really do not have any phobia. I am not scared of anything and I think growing up in the family I have has eliminated most of that phobia, or we were not allowed to let much get in the way of achieving or getting what we want. We grew up inthe country and travelled the world and we were allowed to discover new things and have experiences to accept each being for what they are. I am not aware of any phobia that also exists in any of my siblings. So I was just wondering if environment plays a major part in developing that phobia. I remember having a bit of a phobia wrt spiders. Then my parents got posted overseas, in Laos. The local kids introduced us to spider fights, hunting and training our poisonous spiders to fight other spiders. My perception of spiders has changed from predators to pets to be used in sparring with other spiders. Same with mice. I used to be scared of mice. Then in Laos, my mom used to drag me to village outposts to do the monthly medical checkups on the villagers. They paid us in kind, wild boar, chickens, and roasted field mice. Lol. Funny thing is that my ex-husband who is 6'3 is scared of mice and I used to get to chase the mouse around the house while he locks himself in the bedroom or stand on a chair. Sheesh. But i just live with it. So in answering your question, I can pretty much adapt with people's quirks and idiosyncrasies as I myself have them.

Hate snakes with a passion, but that's only the ones I can't see. If I can see the slimy buggers I'm OK. Sharks the same.. I'm OK with spiders , I think ? Heights I can take or leave but rather leave.

I have an absolute phobia of spiders, I've tried to get past it and can now tolerate the non hairy ones....by tolerate I mean I don't feel sick and can be within a few meters. Hairy - huntsman type.... I would rather cut off an arm than let one get near me. Not keen on jumpy type insects either but pretty much anything else is fine

My male side. Supposedly strong and masculine. 6ft2in. Standing there. Fucking mouse runs out. I'm (Annie) in charge of the bod. I scream like a girl. Everyone looks at me as though to say WTF? Compose myself sheepishly. Shrugs shoulders and gets all defensive. Pisses off quick. What can i say. Annie gets scared at mice, spiders and snakes.

There must be something I am sure of that but haven't come across it. Mind you anything that appears suddenly has the capability of scaring the shit out of me, especially my mad cat that loves playing sneak attack. Years ago I lived with a lass and her three kids, I was crashed in the lounge room on the couch and the youngest (4 at the time) entered the dark room but all I could make out was a shadow, I said who the hell is that several times but no answer as she got really close I nearly struck out but heard her whimper. She had just had a bad dream and wanted to curl up with me for safety. Used to have a slight fear of snakes but with some rational thought that snakes don't really attack you I now stand and chat to them if I come across one, such a stunning, beautiful creature. And Sensual bird phobia is quite common, I actually know a couple myself. An old friend told me a funny story once that when his older brother would torture him (as brothers do) he only had to find a dead bird and show it to him and he would cringe and cry (not that I am saying a phobia is funny in any way)

of snakes, and have absolutely no desire to confront it. Terrified of heights, and confronted this a few years ago by jumping out of a plane, was completely paralysed with fear and did not enjoy it at all, screamed the whole time plummeting towards earth and will not be doing it again No, could not date a snake wrangler or parachute instructor not matter how hot they were Nope, nope, nope

Ew! We have lots of large huntsman spiders in Brissy and they are fast and revolting! There's nothing worse than waking up while one is having a siesta on the ceiling directly above your head, or turning a corner a night and one jumps off the wall at you! Daddy long legs and large garden spiders I find fascinating though. Snakes don't worry me at all unless I've caught them off guard and they are a foot away from me. But I enjoy holding them and having a play. It's those trouser snakes you have to watch out for 😉 And I once knew of a girl who was affraid of tinned spaghetti!

Are disgusting and I would duck down for a second when I see one flying my direction, then get up and kill it 😝 I don't think cockroaches are a phobia for me, as I can kill them 😛 but I would certainly be unable to spend time with someone who think cockroaches are ok to like or have as pet lol - Posted from rhpmobile

While I have climbed the giant trees in the south west of WA scaling the metal pegs in the side of tree trunks, flown in planes, stood on the top of a Swiss mountain in a full white out blizzard, ridden a flying fox - no problem but the fear of falling off an ice skate, roller blade, roller skates or even walking on gravel and slipping is very real. And a fear of very deep dark water.... which happened when I was in the Greek Islands. The water didn't gradually get deeper like our beaches. I was in shallow water which suddenly felt like I was stepping off a cliff and falling into a deep black watery abyss that left me hyperventilating to get out. As a teen I was roller skating in a rink and had a bad fall which I broke my knee cap. I've tried ice skating as an adult but can't leave the safety of the rail for fear of falling. So no bungy jumping head first for me. Although sky diving interestingly doesn't fill me with fear, maybe because it would be a tandem jump. Just looked it up out of curiosity and seems to be called Basiphobia ... wow, it has a name! LG

There was a funny little animation that I saw on the ABC called 'Figaro Pho' he had probably every phobia that existed and they would have the phobia and what it is known as at the start of the show. Those with young kids may be familiar with it or those that are just big idiot kids like me who still love their cartoons and animation

Quoting 'Leo_girl' Basiphobia - fear of falling Bathophobia - fear of deep water Actually, now I think about it, i do have a bit of a fear of deep water many many years ago. More of fear of drowning. When I was little, 4 or 5, I remember my dad threw me out onto the sea and told me to paddle hard back to him. I did not know how to swim. I panicked and pretty much sunk to the bottom of the sea, swallowed lots of sea water. It seems like eternity then I felt a hand lift me from the bottom up to air. I just remembered the relief I felt when the sun hit my face as I gasped for air for the first couple of seconds. I punched my dad repeatedly and was so mad at him for 'letting me drown'. Since then I have a bit of hesitation getting into deep water. However, in my early 20s, to conquer my fear of deep water and waves, I took up a scuba diving course, open water diving course in the middle of winter in Port Phillip bay. I thought if I can put my fear in perspective and look at it objectively, maybe my anxiety may ease up. After many boat dives, wreck dives and shore dives during the course and I trusted my dive instructors and buddies, I got my diving license and have a healthy respect for the sea, for its beauty and danger. I still get butterflies before I go out on a dive but I always look back on the occassions that beneath the danger and fear fo water, there lies a beautiful world underneath. That sort of calms me down a bit.

J will happily cut up anything that moves when it's not moving anymore. Freaks me out. I'm not phobic, but squeamish in extreme. I let her and the kids do fish and chicken and roadkill autopsies "over there"

I'm managing to work past it a bit in recent months, but I still get dizzy and nauseous at the thought of being somewhere high. Buildings don't bother me too much, but bridges, cliffs, anywhere with an open space ... Shudder. They trigger a recurring, terrifying dream from my childhood. - Posted from rhpmobile
