meniscus tear surgery

January 07 2019

hey all ,posted in another thread and the though occurred to me there’s probably quite a few out there in rhp land who have had or know someone who has had meniscus tears repaired mrs be was quite excited at the thought of having it done thinking. finally after 18 months no pain. to walk or not being scared of injuring them and causing a weeks worth of suffering ,that was until the other night we met a women with similar knees and she was also looking looking foward to the surgery last time we met ,well we found out. this poor women’s knees are worse than pre surgery. and wished she never had it ,which to say the least has freaked mrs b out ,although. we don’t know if this lady undid the surgery by not doing something or over doing something ,i said to mrs b ,have faith in your surgeon and yourself ,you will be fine ,but would love to hear some other story’s on theirs or people they know who have had it done ,the good the bad and the ugly ,id be interested to hear 👂 mr b - Posted from rhpmobile

Had the repair done (keyhole surgery) In Feb 2018 and it has taken a good 8 months to be pain free. It is important to go for weekly physio therapy post op, for a few months, to strengthen the muscles etc, especially if you had been suffering (from the tear) for an extended period of time .

I had a meniscus tear repair and a full acl reconstruction usung the patella graft back in 2001. Never had an issue with that knee since. Just make sure you follow your physio’s exercise prescription program!

Hi, I've never had meniscus surgery or had problems with them but I have had a few injuries and surgeries. I find that early on there is a despondent phase where it feels like my body will never be right again and I'm basically going to be a cripple for life. Things usually have to get worse before they get better and it's a shitty process that takes longer than one would hope. It wouldn't surprise me if that women you speak of is in that phase but I'm not a medical professional nor do I know anything about meniscus surgery, the typical recovery process and possible complications so seek proper medical advice and take what I say with a grain of salt.

What we have got to realise with surgery comes recovery, it takes time to for body joints to recover from the post surgery swelling which your body use to protect the joint and once this subsidies you have to stretch all those ligaments and muscle groups back to where they were once many years ago, don't use it you lose it. Also age is another big factor it take time to get the lost range back. Best advice listen to your surgeon and get a physio therapy involved and have positive mind and stay active in life, if it needs to be done do it, good luck

My 14yo just had it done 6-7 weeks ago. She is relatively pain free but has been told to explicitly follow the physio routine to stop any chance of pain later in life. Mrs B, look at it like this, short term pain for long term gain but follow the physio as i know you would. I myself had a small tear 4yrs ago which didn't need surgery but i followed my physios advice and i'm totally pain free. Stay strong, trust your surgeon and physio and get a little bell to get Mr B running all over the house for you lol 😂😂😂😂

I had surgery a couple of years ago on my right knee. I had a bucket handle and an oblique (long term) tear. I walked out of the hospital after the surgery without pain. I didn't have any directions regarding physiotherapy, so I just took my time with the recovery. Gave it a couple of weeks before doing any leg workouts at the gym, and when I did get back to it I used light weights until I gained greater confidence with it. I play baseball a couple of times a week and have had no major issues with it, running has been no problem. From time to time it will become a little swollen, but then I pull back on any activities I do.

Like DC , i to too had a key hole tidy up to some small tears in my left knee three years ago. Not really much pain afterwards but didn’t really improve things either. I had to postpone a knee replacement ( same side) last year to later this year due to some work commitments. Down side of that is I am bone on bone . My leg is now bowing more than ever and below the knee is even starting to twist around. The surgeon tells me my leg will straighten out a lot once done. Maybe my work boots will wear in an even pattern afterwards-ha ha My right knee will need to be done at some stage but it isn’t as bad as the left. The joys of getting older Mrs Boobs hey. I have always said it is still better than the alternative though. Mr Luvsilver
