vaginal dryness

October 26 2011

sex

I have suffered with vaginal dryness for as long as I can remember. I went into early menopause in my late teens/early twenties and as a result, I have always had to use lube products for sex but of recent times, I am wondering if there are any herb or other type remedies which can assist with this problem. I have researched on the internet and see there are many products listed.. replens, black cohosh.. primovera (something like that - a concoction of herbs which are meant to assist). Some sites recommend inserting a vitamin E capsule .. to help with vaginal moisture.. others sites advise this is a dangerous practice. Others mention drinking more water .. or advise the taking of zinc which reputedly can help remedy this situation. Are there any ladies out there of menopausal age.. or who have suffered or who continue to suffer vaginal dryness that can give me some first hand experience and perhaps recommendations of products they found useful. HRT is not a course I wish to resort too as I consider the risks outweigh the benefits. As always, thank you for your input and generous sharing of information.

Thanks Jensta xI wonder if it's the same cream my doc prescribed. Can't quite recall the name of the stuff but the one I was recommended by the gp was hormone based and as with a lot of these type creams - have the potential to increase risk of breast cancer and gynecological cancers; that's why I was really wanting some more 'natural' - the herb route or phytoestrogens, etc. I will make some enquiries however, in case there is something new out with less 'side-effects', as science seems to gallop along at amazing speed with regard to new medications, products, etc. Thanks heaps Ms Jensta xx

The amount of homones in the cream is very minimal Unlike the levels of HRT Without getting into it ....... Im well educated in Womans Health If Woman that are Pre-disposed can use it ( very high risk catergory )It is much safer for the average woman Please seek Doctors advice Natural is good to but they can have the same effectSo don't be fooled by the word Natural Natural Hormone is still Hormones same Effect as HRT Get a Referral from your GP for Menopause Clinic at your major Hospital Good Luck

Jensta..I will do that re the menopause clinic. I know what you are saying, 'natural' is not necessarily safer.. I guess 'gentler' would have been the word..something that encourages the body to behave in a more 'normal' way..lol, that being said - menopause is normal, it's just all the stuff that goes with it is a bit depressing arrrgh. Krissy xx, yes, I think research as much as you can and then take it under consideration alongside your doctors advice is a sound way to go. I have tried speaking to my everyday gp (who is a lovely man) but he seems a bit shy of tackling the subjects surrounding menopause - this is where Jensta's suggestion makes great sense (the menopause clinic). If you have a good doctor (who can and will discuss these matters with you) stick with him/her...they are not always so easy to find. xx Thanks Krissy
