"Man burned the tree of knowledge then forgot how to make fire" anonymous "The snow goose need not bathe. Neither need you do anything but be yourself" Lao Tzu "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars" Oscar Wilde A new one I love and is very me is a meme getting about:Sometimes the thoughts in my head get so bored they go out for a stroll through my mouth. This is rarely a good thing. Thanks Rubi, because of this topic I looked it up and it is actually a quote by Scott Westerfeld from a book called 'Zero' though slightly emended. And I love the word oxymoron and try to find them in life. The snow goose need not bathe to make itself white. Neither need you do anything but be yourself. means "to confuse or fluster." It's a word from the southern U.S. Definitely a regionalism, this word is less popular (but much more hilarious) than some of it's counterparts like befuddle or bewilder. And, to confuse people even more, consider naming your puppy bumfuzzle. “Bumfuzzle! Come here, boy!” That's sure to turn some heads at the dog park.

Definition:1 : a fib 2 : pretentious nonsenseExample:"'We haven't got time to listen to more taradiddles, I'm afraid, Dumbledore.'" — Cornelius Fudge in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, J.K. Rowling, 2004About the Word:There is a myth that taradiddle was born in the town of Taradiddle, Ireland; that itself is a taradiddle, because there is no such town.We don't know where taradiddle (also spelled tarradiddle) comes from, but we do know that the word has been a favorite of writers ranging from Balzac to Trollope to G. K. Chesterton. Lyricist W. S. Gilbert (of Gilbert and Sullivan fame) used it in two operas.

Oh, they never lie. They dissemble, evade, prevaricate, confound, confuse, distract, obscure, subtly misrepresent and willfully misunderstand with what often appears to be a positively gleeful relish and are generally perfectly capable of contriving to give one an utterly unambiguous impression of their future course of action while in fact intending to do exactly the opposite, but they never lie. Perish the thought.Iain Banks, Look to Windward

Quoting 'giddyup' I hate when people use the word literally incorrectly.. It literally makes my head explode - Posted from rhpmobile I know what you mean. However English is defined by its common usage, not by dictionaries written years ago. The fact that people use literally non-literally means that the definition now includes the non-literal hyperbole. The same goes for "Fred and I". "Me and Fred" is now correct because that is its common usage. Things like OMG, WTF etc. are now in the English dictionary. For that is what a dictionary is, a collection of words and their usage as it used. It is not a set of rules that describes what is acceptable and what is not.

Cryptic plumage> Also defined herewith: phaneric plumage. Plumage of a bird that is camouflaging. For example, the white winter plumage of ptarmigans is cryptic as it serves to conceal it in snowy environments.[130] The opposite, "advertising" plumage, is termed "phaneric", such as male birds in colourful nuptial plumage for sexual display, making them stand out to a high degree.[131] Aren't birds inventive? 😀

Amazing. I'm not a bird watcher as such lol but have been fascinated with some birds. The male blue bowerbird as an example collects blue things when mating to attract the females. The females then visit to choose a mate. I've seen their nests with all kinds of blue items, much of it our waste packaging etc. 😀

We teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller. We say to girls: ‘You can have ambition, but not too much. You should aim to be successful, but not too successful. Otherwise, you will threaten the man.’ Because I am female, I am expected to aspire to marriage. I am expected to make my life choices, always keeping in mind that marriage is the most important. Now, marriage can be a source of joy and love and mutual support, but why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage and we don’t teach boys the same? ---Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie ---
