thanks Mods. for the clarification. Yes it can get heated in the sandpit at times. some people walk away, some stand up to abuse. sometimes it can get really personal when people get personal and start namecalling or being disrespectful rather than comment on the behaviour, posts or action. I am guilty of being cheeky and argumentative sometimes and I try to be mindful. However, being human and naturally outspoken, I have my limits and call out on the bad behavior. But we do move on. Next week will be different and we will all be building sandcastles together again... It is just the forum after all........

And not the fun kind! There was an article I read on the ABC about a 27 year old WA man who lost his liver from consuming protein powder!!! They put it down to the green tea content. Apparently it's not an isolated incident and the hospital are getting more and more cases of liver damage due to young people consuming "wellness products" The poor guy had a liver transplant which had Hep B (I assume all that was available at the time) It's pretty concerning considering every man and his dog are using protein powders and excessive green tea detox products in the name of health

Quoting 'Summer_solstice' I thought your post was very well-worded, and measured. I'm trying to learn from you. That's lovely, and given the day I've had today, I really appreciate it. Now, I'm going to go and soak away my troubles, wash my hair, and go to bed early, in the hope that Wednesday brings me a slightly cheerier day.

Apparently it's not an isolated incident and the hospital are getting more and more cases of liver damage due to young people consuming "wellness products"The trouble with this report is that it should really be presented in a similar way to "man dies after eating prawns" the prawns don't come with a label, it's just well known that you can have a reaction. Pretty much anything can have a strange reaction in some people. """Clinical pharmacologist Professor Ric Day from St Vincent's Hospital said cases like Mr Whitby's were known as "idiosyncratic" reactions and could happen with virtually any medication. "It is very rare and it seems like some individuals have a particular sensitivity" he said.""" Green tea extract has been studied, and it is low risk... unless you're a person who'll react badly to it. Hopefully this doesn't get blown out of all proportion the way 1,3dimethylamylamine was and get pulled from the shelves because being banned by WADA is conflated with "illegal" and "illegal" with "dangerous".

I do take some protein shakes after a gym workout. at times. there are many wellness powders out there with green tea content, specially for detoxing and weight loss. I would have thought that a lot of research and some clinical trials would have been carried out before mass production commence. To detox now, i use organic herbs and vegies into my smoothies rather than powders. It is messier and more time consuming but at least I know what goes in my high fibre cleansing smoothies.

It is messier and more time consuming but at least I know what goes in my high fibre cleansing smoothies. most supplements are based on "bro science" and cherrypicking research expecting that a substance showing an effect in vitro will show an effect in vivo, or that supplements will even make it through the gut without being broken down by the time they reach the bloodstream or that they'll even make it into the cells without being altered. Only pharmaceuticals undergo clinical trials (or other substances making specific medical claims) - generally if your products suggest they're herbal and "may" have an effect, then they're not going through the testing. Using "may" pretty much moves you out of the realms of medicine where you must back up your claims with data. (This is the VASTLY oversimplified version of getting around the requirement for clinical trials). Having said that these don't undergo testing - it's a bit like nobody has tested Mrs Macs Pies for safety in their specific combination of meat and pastry. But "beef" is well known as something safe for human consumption, and so is the stuff that makes up the pastry. Green tea extract has been tested and found safe. This guy was just unlucky, otherwise we'd be seeing a LOT of people keel over. Whey/casein/etc powder is found to be safe (and most of the base whey/casein powders all come from the same dairy factories, before being mixed with flavouring and any extra like creatine later on). Nobody did full clinical trials on creatine mixed with whey before it was sold as a product, but we know the whey is safe, and we know the casein is safe. We know peanuts are safe for human consumption as are prawns... except when they're not and someone dies. Dosage is just as important too - a little wine is beneficial, a barrel is death. Arguably people have a better idea of dosage when they _don't_ make their own food. Some people like a black coffee before a workout - caffeine is a great drug. But that ristretto is highly variable depending on the particular beans, barista, etc - unlike a scoop of pre-workout powder or some high caffeine "energy" drink (just watch the sugar content).

Yeah its gone viral. There is a gofundme set up for the Ballerat victims to be flown to Rome for Pells video link testimony to the Royal Commision. Think its up to the 60 g mark. Minchin has said he will donate all procedes of the sale of the song to the fund. The victims just want him to look them in the eyes when he testifies. Geez its not even about the kids he abused ( they aint touching those allegations) its just about his cover up of what his mates were doing. Good on Tim Minchin for saying what no media will.

Is there a way not to see profiles - like a hide this profile from search function? Blocking doesn't seem to hide a profile from search. I was paying my rates today and an older gentleman was in front of me. I heard him saying to the receptionist that he would like his rates notices updated as his wife had passed away and was still receiving his notices addressed to both him and his late wife. He was very calm in saying this but I couldn't help thinking how much his poor heart must break each time the rates arrive.

Quoting 'Summer_solstice' I've been watching the original series in preparation for this one, but I caught the terrorism episode last week and was so disappointed! 😧 but the science in it was still plausible.. whereas in this week's episode the science element was in shatters and a complete mess....Once I could get over the BS and misinformation I was left with the amazement of how someone can come up with an antibody for an infection not even diagnosed using (hold on to your hat!) ALIEN DNA that NO ONE ever mapped before...and all in a matter of hours without any equipment when even a simple gene test takes about 2 weeks! And then it was topped off with Scully -a medical doctor!- administering an IV on the side of the road in a car without ANY equipment....Seriously? Ah the "fake antenna disturbance" in the online broadcast made me cringe too..I mean...seriously??? an online broadcast - via CABLES- is having antenna disturbance because the dude tho "maintains the satellite is sick" seriously??? satellites are programmed as per coordinates..it does not matter whether the operator is having the swine flu or being struck by ebola... these kind of stuff ruined it for me :( :( was horrible...

Quoting 'Luck_Dragon' Just watched the new Ghostbusters trailer. Not sure yet, trailer wasn't particularly good but that might not mean anything. Just gotta wait for the movie I guess. just watched it too. (pressing 9 a couple of times when you start the trailer was mildly amusing) Based on the trailer I'd give it a solid "meh" with a possible increase to "download and watch it... eventually... maybe" rating. I love Kristen Wiig, but this just left me thinking "why". I got more laughs, enjoyment and a sense of "wanting to see more" the comments than the trailer. It started with the "press 9" tip, and unlike the trailer, I actually laughed at FuckFace McGee's "4 women with vacuum cleaners? the perfect movie" Thankfully, unlike the trailer, the comments thread keeps going - where Sucker MC drops a phat:"who you gonna call? the movie theatre to see what else is playing". Unfortunately Sony has apparently deleted all the best comments - like they seem to have deleted the greatness from Ghostbusters.
