Anything and Everything!

March 14 2015

Is it time for a new Anything and Everything thread? I say yes! A place to discuss whatever we like (respectfully and within reason), without the possibility of going off topic. Just like a real conversation! Not an original idea of course, so here's a shout-out to Meeka and Manly for their earlier versions.

Jeez I almost typed "let me be the fist" but then realised it was you Meander that started the topic not Meeka lol it should've been " let YOU be the fist" if it was her haha Anyway, teenagers are such a drain on your sex life (life in general actually)! I can't wait until we're in our 50's and the kids have gone (love 'em) and we can do as we fucking well please! #anothersaturdaynightwaitingforkidstocomehomesafelybeforegoingtobedandfuckingallnight

A shout out to all the earlier... and since versions including Foxy's, Freya's and Paintme's... . Let this be the first time I say I like the honesty of the Vent thread and I hope I don't end up alone there. . I don't see the need for this thread. JMO.

I thought stealth mode meant nobody is notified when you view their profile. Everyone can still see when I am online, though, as I haven't disabled that. I was just wondering if you block someone who has you on their hotlist, do they get the real time notification when you log in?

Quoting 'Meander'Thanks again RHP, now where are those edit buttons? Given that some form of conflict is inevitable here I'm a believer of the if you said it you own school of thought. I've seen conflicts on other forums where people have edit old posts then denied ever making their original statements, this leads to excessive quoting so that the comments are kept for all to see. So really I can't see any benefit in an edit function, just as in RL a correction be an explanation can be made.

.....one of my favourite subjects. Hey everyone, do you normally eat the same types of foods and eat at the same restaurants/pubs/cafes when going out? Or do you try a different place and / or different food each time? Or do you prefer to cook and eat at home? Do tell - would love to hear your restaurant recommendations. My preference is to eat out. I have several favourite restaurants, particularly near home and cafes near work.Love a good coffee, Asian food, lasagne, chicken parma with well cooked chips/fries.I'm not a bad cook but it's just not my favourite thing to do. Enjoy your day. Now it's over to you!

wondered why dogs are so careful about finding just the right spot to... relieve themselves? Science may have found the answer... From website ScienceAlert: ''Researchers have found that dogs use Earth’s magnetic fields to align their bowel and bladder movements - and they prefer to relieve themselves along a north-south axis. In fact, canines will actively avoid going to the bathroom in an east-west direction, the study found. After monitoring 70 dogs from 37 different breeds over a two year period, scientists from the Czech University of Life Sciences in the Czech Republic and the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany found that dogs were more likely to poo along a north-south axis, determined by the Earth's geomagnetic field (magnetic north is slightly different to true north). The findings, which were published in Frontiers in Zoology at the start of last year, were the result of watching a total of 5,582 urinations and 1,893 defecations (yep, just imagine how fun that would have been). The team then compared the positioning of the dogs during the acts to variations in the Earth’s magnetic field. They found that in calm magnetic field conditions, the dogs consistently preferred to be aligned north-south when they pooed. But perhaps the most striking result was that, regardless of magnetic field conditions, dogs blatantly avoided relieving themselves along the east-west alignment. The reason for this preference still isn’t clear. The authors wrote in the paper:"It is still enigmatic why the dogs do align at all, whether they do it 'consciously' (i.e., whether the magnetic field is sensorial[ly] perceived) … or whether its reception is controlled on the vegetative level (they 'feel better/more comfortable or worse/less comfortable' in a certain direction).” However, it’s further proof that many animals are able to sense the Earth's magnetic field and adjust their behaviour accordingly. We humans also have a protein in our retina which may help some people detect the planet’s magnetic field, but for most of us the ability is out of reach. But at least we now know why there’s so much pivoting involved every time our dog needs to go to the bathroom.'' The more you know!!

“jolie-laide [jol-ee-led]” — (idiom) Only the French would have such a way to describe beauty. A wonderful slang expression, it literally means “pretty and ugly” but describes the type of feminine beauty that is human, and not manufactured by plastic surgeons. It’s a kind of fascinating quirkiness implying charisma, a face you want to keep looking at, even if you can’t decide whether it is beautiful or not. Love it!

I left home at 17 to pursue my studies. Worked 3-4jobs part time while studying full time. Nit an easy gig but I survived. Also my pride kept me from going back home. I had to prove to my family I can be an independent young woman. I was hungry for thw world. And literally. I cried myself hungry at night at times or I would focus on my books to drown the sound of my stomach growling. But I made it. What I didn't think about was how painful it must have been for my mother to be without her child. I was a child then and was very selfish and self centered. Only whem I became a parent did I see that the ties that bind us is strong and the desire to protect our young will never diminish. My teenage boys tower over me by a head length but I stillworry about them when they are away at night with their friends. It is times like these when iy reminds me hiw grateful I am they will be walking into my home and I am lucky, no blessed, to be able to kiss and hug them again. And tell them I love them. Hugs to you both.

Quoting 'madotara69' When we were over in NZ a mate set up a busines, dial a driver. You for example would drive your car to where ever the do is, then when you want to go home, call dial a driver and we would come in our little hatchback, one of us would come in, suit and tie and escort you to your car and drive you home in it, while the other driver follows, park your car and see you safely home to the kiddies. $20 Classy hey. brilliant idea but may be an unsustainable business here due to sprawling size of melb, but may work if they up the fee... need to feedle withthe business model but I say brillliant and a great help to the community. BTW, I commute to work. Always. If I need to go to a client site outside work, I get them to give me a cabcharge. It is a brave rich man/woman to drive to Melb CBD everyday for work when the trains and trams can get you there quicker and hassle free. and more eco friendly. when I am in Sydney for work, I train it too so I pretty much know sydney public transport system. Am getting good with Brisbane transport system (love the free inner city buses) but very expensive to move around. thank goodness my hotels are always in the city or southbank (walk across the bridge to the city). Now Perth... hmmm. nice trains and love the free inner city buses. bless WA.

Bought his business, we were in Palmerston North, about 20km from one end to the other. We had about six cars and half a dozen extra drivers, portable radios and drivers all over the place getting picked up by one of the cars nearest. It was a great job, with a regular crowd, they party over there, motor bikes, trucks, it was fun. To do it in Sydney, Melbourne wow, you have to get there shortly after they call, or pre booked, hardly ever worked though because everyone is pissed, but keep them waiting, they will drive home themselves. Set up would need to be husband wife, boyfriend girlfriend or any paired up teams with a vehicle working from homes in all suburbs. If DG sold his new bigger boat, maybe he could give it a crack.

But I have no idea how much they charge. I'm guessing it would be rather expensive.

NZ, it is not a taxi service, because you drive them in their own vehicle, $100,000 for a Taxi number plate I think, some where about. Could be handy Fun if your out with your car and coincidently end up at the pub or in a fancy restaurant womanising, youse and your car get home if you call them, swish too, saves getting back to the car when she wants a lift home the next morning and you left your car in town. Smooth moves suit you to a tee Fun.

But it does make me wonder. How much does having two former Prime Ministers pass away in only a few will help Joe Hockey balance his books?

But there are a number of pubs very, very close by.
