have a important (to them) meeting scheduled last minute. from 4:30 onwards. Bugger. Was hoping to leave early to catch the sunset and have fish and chips or something on our local beach with my boy. Looks like Im trapped in the war room for up to 8:30pm or more. my little grey matter can only process so much info. you're so frustrated and angry you're almost beyond words (with either a person or situation), then your attempt to vent that emotion is frustrated yet further by something so spectacularly stupid you just about completely do your bottle? I was at that point today after a long, long build up. I was at the outer limits of my patience, and I'm still not sure if I was being goaded. Tonight I was going to use Go Ogle's English/Latin Translators in attempt to get those emotions out of my system with some reading, thinking and creative writing. Those software tools are somewhat flawed/loose in their translation. I entered a phrase, but when I checked it by translation back to English again, the message was transformed as happens with 'Chinese Whispers'. Still mighty frustrated about the original situation (from today), it took a moment to see the funny side of the retranslation... English (original): "massive fucking about-face" Latin (translation): "ingens circa - faciem stupri" English (translated back again): "huge round - face rape"

Tall the message format may appear correct in the forum message drafting window, yet appear completely f@cked up once posted to the forum. Sadly, the ability to edit after posting (as is common in many other fora) is lacking here, so forumites are unable to correct any such error. As example, last night I posted a picture made up of symbols. In the drafting window it appears as intended. In the forum it is an unintelligible mess. (Lady parachuting. Includes previously used Unicode IPA Extension symbol U+02AC). Anyone working in customer service that works hard and tries their best are admirable in my eyes 😘 Isn't it peculiar that some (customers or otherwise) who espouse particular values and claim certain traits, actually do no such thing? (In fact, quite the opposite sometimes. Not referring to you, Soft). Freed from the shackles of corporate protocol, it can sometimes feel fantastic to hold a mirror up to some of these hypocrites and dish it right back at 'em (albeit in a much more polite and witty manner). There are those with such a sense of entitlement, they are left absolutely stunned (even stung), when someone refuses to take their shit. Some of them will cry foul and run to others to fight their battles for them. I for one have run out patience with those types. I usually don't give them much time (though now and again I do make exceptions).

i hae a couple of businesses and the verbal abuse and attitude that some of my staff gets is just unjustifiable and I do understand it causes them a lot of stress, specially for the younger staff. trully uncalled for. Hence the high turn over of staff at most businesses. I sometimes have to step in some days (mainly weekend) to give my staff a day off, I see the abuse first hand but I do stand my ground and shove it back to them, in a very nice way of course. It would be very tempting to automate some of these service to eliminate the abuse and stress in the workforce. I believe that these abusive customers feel entitled to freely abuse for their dollar. Worst are the tire kickers. I think they redirect their personal frustrations onto front line staff, thinking they are trained to handle conflict but not so. I have worked as an observer in Call centres around the country and the abuse is phenomenal. Definitely feel for customer service staff across the country and overseas.

I worked in a call centre at the ATO for a while and it was such an eye opener. No wonder call centres have such high turnovers of staff. I can't fathom how people think they are justified in abusing someone - not just a service provider but anyone. I'm disheartened at the amount of people so full of self importance these days - I sound like an old grandma. Everyone wants to take out their frustrations on others, deflect whatever it is they've got going on. The world is all about "me" now - my needs, my time, my happiness, my importance. I just hope there's enough "others" to keep some sort of balance. And the irony is that a lot of those who are nasty to service workers, are usually over stressed and over worked in their own jobs copping abuse from bosses, staff or clients.

  • Seachange73

indeed. at the other end of the line, people forget, is a human being just trying to make ends meet to feed themselves and their family. Hence there is a push in optimizing some customer service processes (billing, etc) via automation (IVR or internet payment and contact) as some simple incoming non-emergency calls can end up as abuse calls to the staff. You'd be familiar with the CRM systems where scripts are written to the nth degree to get some of these 'complaints' escalated to more trained and experienced conflict management teams. Patience of saints. Worst I have seen are the CC telecommunications and utility companies. They really cop a lot of abuse, listening into the calls. I ahve consulted for different call centres in different industries and it can be very challending. I feel for you as ATO can be very emotionally challenging too.

Death threats were a regular occurrence and I had two stalkers during my time there. The most obvious frustration is it's not the employees' fault for instance that the call queue is long. We were times for toilet and water breaks. And it got to the stage where you weren't allowed to leave you seat. I'd like to see how a lot of people handle such a battery hen environment. I spent eight years working with volatile but extremely valuable part of our community - veterans. Addictions, PTSD, depression etc all had a major impact on how much tolerance they had. I found that empathy, patience and listening diffused most situations. But people don't realise their abuse might be the 10th abusive event that one person had already that day. People just need to breathe more!

People just need to breathe more! that is so true. what a good analogy. observing the processes and rules and regulations of call centre for the first time, i was surprised. spoke and discussed major issues with ground staff (sales, billing and general enquiry) and it seems the major issues is the waiting time on the cust behalf. what can be a simple call can be truly annoying after on hold for 20-1 hour. I see their point. but also making staff work like galley slaves to cut down waiting time (love the timers on the floor, timing longest call on queue, etc) by reducing /scheduling toilet breaks is very inhumane. Most people who do not have social and negotiating skills will not last a week there. I can relate when calling in call centre but I do nto get mad as i have seen how the other side works. However, i do get annoyed but not at the staff.

Now I suppose I'll be accused of being negative Swing on over to the happy threads re Friday Funnys etc, my own happy threads are happy, sexy and light hearted, that's where you'll find me. I want to talk about sex and have fun with it, it must weigh you people down all this bitching. Yep, swing on over there and try being happy and nice, you'll like it, it's cool

Quoting 'lily1970' I swear to God some mens ears are bloody painted on....they only hear what they want to hear. we also have buttons for eyes ; ) Calling for assistance when unable to find something, it has frequently been suggested to: " 'ave a muvva look!" (said in a mock bogan accent to sound like " 'ave anuvva look", but meaning "Have a Mother's look". They seem to always know where your stuff is!)

Is about people that don't go to swingers clubs, or parties, or meet & greets, social events, speed dating, etc etc, but they have such preconceived ideas that they take one comment or unfortunate incident to confirm that it's all bad and horrible and they couldn't possibly go. They make broad sweeping statements about people that attend - when in fact they actually have no clue. About anything really. In a way I feel sorry for them because they must be scared to go? Not confident enough? Not adventurous? Don't want to feel like a small fish in a big pond? IDK. The whole attitude really puzzles me. Why are people like that? I totally get not wanting to go one your own but if you have friends that go or you are part of couple. There is nothing stoping you. Surely? PS this is not directed in anyone in particular. Yes I have seen this attitude displayed on this and other forums, but I also have friends that do it too. What is the worst that can happen?!?!?

One possible reason, is that a person might be agoraphobic, and is trying to find a way to justify for themselves not to attend. When you have fears, you will find any sort of excuse, whether it is seen as reasonable or not - as long as it is to them. Don't of course know about your particular circumstances with those you know of, but it is one possibility. Tall

Don't get me started on the topic of take on luggage. If anything is going to get me riled up about flying this is it!! It absolutely shits.me.to.tears. when people waltz on to the plane with three pieces (or more) of hand held luggage..... one of the which is too heavy for them to be able to life into the overheads (hellooooo....maximum 7kgs people! Should be able to life that one handed!), one or more of which are larger than my suitcase which is all cosy downstairs in the luggage compartment, and the other which may or may not classify as a handbag....but is large enough for a family of four to live out of for three days. OMG... it makes me furious!!! I wish airlines would start doing something about it 😬😠😡
